Some feature requests.

Post by Slash » Sun Jan 02, 2005 6:43 pm

Hi,
Since suckers (drivers blocking the way intentionally, driving in reverse directions, pushing disabled cars onto the track again, etc.) sometimes annoy me, I have some feature requests, that make hunting for these idiots more fun:

1.
When pressing TAB, the name of each player is shown near the car. This text should be displayed in a different color (e.g. grey), if the car is disabled. Thus, it would be easier for a hunter (me) to distinguish cars that are already disabled from cars that just wait in the grass for some laps before getting "active".

2.
There should be extra-points for disabling a car. When creating an own server, this option should be configurable (like the number of points for the fastest lap).

3.
Maybe the outline of a car shall be made visible, if it lies more than two or three seconds below a bridge. This would also be useful for "normal" players that got lost under a bridge, losing the orientation. Sometimes this happens to me, and then I have absolutely no idea where I got stuck and/or in which direction the car is heading.

Thanks.

I will think about the ideas. They are added to the long list of possible future features but I can't promise anything :).

One game mode could be driving a very short track until all but one is disabled :).

@you and others ;):
please write next time "feature requests" in the correct topic.

1. is a good idea :-)
But i still prefer optional settings like:
disabling: off, on: for race, on: for few seconds getting ghost and x seconds loosing controls

2. There might be a statistical count variable...how many and who disabled who...
This remembers me to the necessary feature for supporting a kind of TS-mod, Kobradog and i and maybe it was Newton also... invented...
The mod is about disabling/catching cars^^

3. yes, Ande, don't you have the outline not already on your list ;)
Anyway, i prefer an outline with the color of the car.
Or: the car becomes 50% visible under a bridge (but this is bad in ghostraces)...
or the bridge is becoming 50% invisible when driving under (for a client) -> but thats not really good possible to implement, i know.

But anyway, static objects (track objects) placed under bridges won't be visible. So, hopefully track makers don't make stupid things under bridges and if they do, hopefully servers don't let accept those tracks ;)
One game mode could be driving a very short track until all but one is disabled.
Remembers me also to the idea of the catching-mod.
Disabling or Catching, don't remember the name we called it^^
Finally 1 car would drive some laps and the others don't drive a lap.
Then "The Disabler" goes and tries to catch cars, which are trying to avoid touching him by hiding or just escpaing out of the zone the disabler is driving ;)
And to make the escape harder: this would take place in a small arena ;)

So, who is the winner then?
Depends on the kind of game.
1) You can for example just playing catching until only the disabler left...
And the disabler wins, if he catched all in the server-"raceidle"-time (for example 60 seconds or more...).
2) You can improve the 1st winning rules with allowing the other drivers to drive laps. The Disabler tries to disable them before they get x laps...
With this system, it is easier to give points in that mod, if you like to honor drivers with points for making challenges, like: everyone is 1 time the Disabler (max 20 "races"), and the cup seems like normal...fastest lap does not count...

There already is a dedicated server possibility, read doc/README-autoserver.txt. The current record server is just what you described: a standalone linux server which occasionally generates HTML stats with the command /generatestats.
