Turbo Sliders slow above res 800x600
In wich resolution are you playing? If I turn all details on and switch to an res of 1024 x 768 or 1280 x 1024 the game runs realy slow. Also in 800x600 mode the game seems to be slower than 640x480.
Hardware:
CPU: 1,2 GHz
RAM: 786 MB
GC: ATI Radeon 8500

I'm playing at 1024x768 with the linux-version and loads (press F10 on game) are about 50-75%. No alpha render or light mapping on. Windows version runs about the same specs.
Of course game runs "slower" when you increase the resolution. Don't turn on all details and you don't have to play with 1280x1024
My machine is about: AMD64 3000+, 1GB, GF4 Ti4-4200.

Yes it seems that I underestimate that game. It uses some nice 3D Effekts apparently stressing my hardware enough. After xmas i'll buy some new hardware so I can play Doom and other good new stuff on my linux box, too. I think the time is over where you had only quake, ut, old doom ports and some little games based on scumm-engine running on linux. More and more linux runnable games are seeing the light of day and i'm happy about that.
How resolution affects game speed mainly depends on the graphic card. There are no complex effects but if there is not much video memory or video memory is slow, it can take a lot of time just to draw the track once in a frame. If there are any problems, I would suggest using default settings. 640x480 is enough for myself
.
With F10, you can debug how much time graphics update takes. Unfortunately, SDL library that is used by the game has very bad alpha blending support. So if there are many cars and lots of smoke visible and the resolution is very high, it can cause slowdown even with newer cards. Workaround is to use 640x480 or turn off alpha-blending.

I'm using default settings and the game gets really stucky if you have, let's
say 12+ drivers on small track. I don't remember if you can strip any more
effects or anything from the default settings, but any suggestions?
AMD Thunderbird 1200MHz
GF FX 5200 128MBit
768 MB DDR
Haven't tried the Linux version yet, because I can't get it running in Gentoo.
The static version works, but I also had a sound issue so I didn't take too
much time with it. What's the concrete difference with these two versions?

Disabling alpha blending probably helps if you haven't already done so. Are you using 640x480? Unfortunately, alpha blending is really slow in SDL, which is the library that the game uses. I really hope they will fix it future...Thunderer wrote:I'm using default settings and the game gets really stucky if you have, let's

The linux version is a little slower than windows version. I have TS running in Gentoo and it works fine. Dynamic version needs (as reads in readme) SDL libraries. You can see with command "ldd sliders.linux" which libraries are not found and then install them with emerge. I had to make a new symbolic link with one of the libSDL libraries to point it to correct file.Thunderer wrote: Haven't tried the Linux version yet, because I can't get it running in Gentoo.

Maybe some more precise help should be in those documents.
