Yes, there could be several equally fast lines in a turn. :)

* It would probably also make X-Bowl more interesting.

* How about a skateboard mod?

Yep x-bowl would be better. You must tell how a skateboard mod would work! ahehe like a race? i cant see how doing "tricks" would be fun. But yeah a downhill slalom (sp?) would be nice!

...well I guess it wouldn't be too advanced. Maybe a street race with obstacles, ramps, jumps and rails to grind. Or maybe a pool ride, kinda like X-Bowl. :P

But I would mostly like to work on some off-road modding. Leaning surface and the existing bump terrain could make for some interesting driving... and hopefully also including the oil-slick terrain Ande have mentioned.

Personal best lap times

Post by dby » Thu Mar 02, 2006 4:34 pm

For the record, I think there is a bit too much emphasis on lap-records. But many people like it, and there are some good things about it. But it's sorta hidden away.

Personal best lap times!

One of the most important incentive for a new player is the sense of improvement. Most new players feel like they are crap drivers, we've all been there. I've seen many on the demo server that seem to give up when they always end up last. I guess it can be especially frustrating when a lot of the drivers at demo server are really skilled. If they would notice their personal improvement they might stick around a bit longer.

More and more after a race, I've started to check my own lap times... but this is somewhat of a hassle. I have to go to "records", change player to dby since I'm seldom in the top 25 list, and finally I might have to change the list to display the right car. But when doing all that I finally can see that I break new personal best records all the time, which is very gratifying... I'm getting better... slowly, but still. :)

I would like to see some changes to how records are displayed:

* In the top 25 list I would like to see only cars that were avalable in the race as a default. That would be a good start. Now it seem to display the fastest of all the cars I have in the cars directory, which can be totally irrelevant. And when displaying a players top 10, the car that was used in the race should be displayed as default.

* At the screen where I choose car, I'd also like to see my personal best lap for each car... if it's too cramped when there's more than one local player, it could display only the fastest lap out of all the local drivers.

* A message locally during race that tells when a personal record has been broken would be nice.

This would help me to keep track of my personal best laps and let me know when I'm improving. A feeling not to be underestemated.;)

I *SO* agree with dby about the personal lap times feature!!!

It would be great to hear "New Personal Best Lap" from the announcer guy when racing!!!

-fasteddie399

p.s. feels good to be back! And Ande, the Fuel feature is GREAT!

Hey Eddie good to see you on the forums! Sign in MSN when you play TS, i will invite you to some good fuel races!

And yep i talked of the personal best records in the past, since i am not very good with trying for records, that will be a nice add on.

PS - Eddie if your free sundays then you should join EA Formula 1.

I have a feature request: In the log file, include each car's Starting Position. For example:

fasteddie399 pos 14 (time: 3:09.968, 8 laps), started 3, best lap: 5 (22.260) EasySlider 774d2bd7

This would be a great addition for accumulating stats for 1-Lap tournament races. :P

To extend the ban-command to allow banning a IP-range.
Like this "/ban 10.10.10.*"

Sounds like a nice idea.

I think there should be more statistics when showing the results too. Like points per race (useful because some players join and leave during the cup) etc. As well as the possiblitly to enter the Team name seperately so that you could also do a team ranking etc.

I think these features are much easier to do than AI players, but are more useful.

A stripslashes() in the server list (server desctiptions etc) will take out the slashes before ' and ". It looks nicer ;)

omg, are u serious about typing a 'secret word' before posting a message?

You don't need to type it in if you're registered and signed in. I need to ask the webmaster hide the query when you're signed in...

I HAVE BIG TRACK PLANS FOR THIS... I've sent an email to ande about this upgrade in editior/game.

If i recall correctly, the problem was increased loading times or incompatibility or something similar... , oh my poor memory it was about 1,5 years ago when i asked.

Those who have slow machines keep there tracks at 2000 by 2000, but those who have latest machines like pentium 4 64 bit, 1 gig or more ram have the option to make bigger tracks

My feautre request would be the engine sound - I'd like a sound where you can hear the gears changing (and as you approach a corner and release gas, gears shifting downwards). That would really make it more cool, like real F1 racing. Also, if possible, many track parts from the old Stunts game could be implemented in TS, such as turning bridges [make them higher as well] and tunnels and jumps which land on a bridge (that would rock). Anyway, when's version 1.08 coming out?

a question/request:
if someone know my program to make an autoserver easy this is my idea, have the possibility by a command or something else to load an external macro not included in macros.ini...
example:

Code: Select all

Begin Reg
/run F1-macro.ini
End
in this way you can make different types of macros for each type of cup you want to host, because you can edit to insert specific tracks & cars.

By this little command i can make too easy my little program to make an easy autoserver by putting only a text-field and a button, by pushing the button you can load a specific macro and by pressing start my program create a new macros.ini like how i wrote up

PS: i know this can be a personal request but we all can use it by typing /run YourPreferCup.ini

if is possible "and i think is can be" have the possiblity to make scripting in macros.ini like:

Code: Select all

Begin RaceEnd
$If NextTrack = Arena Then
$   Perform = "/laps 10"
$End If
End
in this way we can make good script with few options!

YEAH YEAH YEAH!!!!!!!!! That would be awesome, but I don't know how difficult it would be, given the current scripting system.

Stop shouting here we don't need bigger tracks and enough people already asked you to stop shouting about new features.

Also remember that you cannot play big tracks on the same computer with your friends.

Oh, this game looks sooo familiar for me. I loved this game. :-) When there is a VICE Version with better network functions, we could play it on the net!

More Suggestions

Post by Jeffrey » Sat Apr 22, 2006 12:08 pm

2 Suggestions for next version.

1. Qualify Session against time and then show results by lap times.

2. More spaced grid-position tile. So cars have more space between them when they start. This will lead to less collisions. Maybe a settings to set grid positions width space and length space between cars using some command.

another 2000+ x 2000+ voice heard...

There is absolutely no PRACTICAL reason the game needs to be modified to accomodate these higher track dimensions. One of the greatest features of this game is its ability to run smoothly (50fps). Increasing the max. track size will undoubtedly affect (negatively) this asset.

Plus, the programmer himself has explained numerous times in this forum why he does NOT wish to do so... and being a fellow programmer myself, it makes absolute sense to my why it would be a bad idea.

So, all those in favor of larger track dimensions, please do yourselves a favor and TRUST those of us who understand why it's a bad idea... they know what they are talking about.

:P
