Track loading problems (track makers read this!)

Post by Ande » Sat Apr 01, 2006 2:08 pm

I found a possible cause of lots of track loading problems when testing some F1 tracks by Cesar o BOM & BigCarva. In those tracks, TileDefinitions had references to files like xxx.png but in reality the files were named xxx.PNG. Unfortunately, this causes problems in Linux environment where the file names are actually case sensitive.

Another unfortunate thing is that version 1.0.7 (no earlier, no later) crashes if it fails to load a track. So, recent track loading problems and crashes may be explained by this. 1.0.7 client (Windows or Linux) can crash if it goes to a Linux server which has a track with reference to xxx.png instead of xxx.PNG. The server does not find the file and won't send it to the client which then crashes trying to load it.

This crash is fixed in 1.0.8 (and 1.0.8 betas) but I suggest that the existing F1 tracks are fixed by renaming the PNG files to png.
