PunaBall 2vs2 World Cup 2008
I know that there's already another PunaBall cup going on, but this will be smaller and different, since it will be country-based.
There will be changes from last PunaBall World Cup I organized (back in 2006): the most important one is that only 1 team per country will take part to the event (if more teams are signed up, there will be a qualification round).
Rules and more info will come later. From now on, you can signup your team for the competition, or you can leave your name if you haven't got a team but you still want to join.
Remember that you can signup only with people connected from the same country as you (yeah, it will be based on IP - not real nationality).
After the first round (country-based), you are allowed to get substitutes coming from non-qualified teams.
IMPORTANT: if we don't have enough countries for a fair group system, wildcards will be given randomly (naturally basing on country-based round ranking).

I said this to dede on msn already (he kind of said not now, maybe later), but I want to hear what others think. How about making something new on Puna area: this cup as it is, but 3vs3. Something different for the world of organized Puna cups. I would be very interested to see well organized 3 player teams playing.
True, but for instance, the top 2 teams in the PB league won't be allowed here. Also, good players from smallers countries will have very limited choice, and average players from big countries won't even get a chance to play.dede wrote:Ehrm, you play with them anyway.Tijny wrote:Bleh, country-based
I know you want it to be like the "real" world cup, but real coaches can choose from hundreds of players that are almost equally skilled. This is just too restrictive and some players will be left out, I don't like that.
It's exactly like football: only best team for each country will compete (no matter if a country has 100 top players and some other has none). That's also the reason because I didn't bother to organize it while another PB cup is going on.Tijny wrote:This is just too restrictive and some players will be left out, I don't like that.
We have "punaball clubs" (storm&matti, xzeal&rattlehead, etc) playing in the PB League, and here we'll have a selection of best players from each country competing against other countries.
Yeah, it all depends by signed up teams. If we get 8 countries, we'll have two groups of 4 teams each, then semifinals and final.Storm wrote:i cant see many teams (countrys) signing in, 6/7 probably (finland, italy, holland, denmark and maybe portugal, france and spain) so it must be a short cup. Its gonna be like real Euro? Groups?

Faroe islands
Not that it's likely that i can fill a team, but sign me up for Faroe Islands.
Anyone from the Faroe Islands who wants to join my team? Is there even more then one player in the TS world from Faroe Islands?

The most likely way for the world to be destroyed, most experts agree, is by accident. That's where we come in; we're computer professionals. We cause accidents. (Nathaniel Borenstein)
