You can set it between 2 and 4.. Actually settings might change from those I gave to you.. Those written before were the ones used in the three test races. Please stay close to those values anyway, so that we don't have BIG changes in tyre wear.lux2 wrote:What about Track edge used for kerbs?
No, that's for people who need authorization to sign up. If you are unsure, please sign in later.Whiplash wrote:Put me in with *.

After a short discussion, dede and I decided that the weekly qualifying will take a slightly different direction: instead of the traditional single lap wanking, it will now be about posting 3 good lap times in the same 8-lap session, with the average of those 3 laps being your qualifying time. This has the advantage that it rewards consistency, and it also decreases the luck factor, thereby giving a more accurate depiction of everyone's real skill level. What we also hope to achieve by this is to get bigger gaps in the final standings compared to last season, so that it's relatively easier for skilled players to make the cut.
I already wrote the script that handles all this, and you can expect a public testing server to go up later today.

I don't agree with this new qualy idea. This helps no other than the guys who are already on the top, like dede and Tijny. I'll explain why I think so.
It makes no sense that someone who broke the tracks's record on the last lap might qualify in 3rd or 4th because he had some bad laps. What if he ...
1) ... had temporary lag problems throughout the session?
2) ... is as competent as anyone else (maybe better) but takes longer to learn the tracks?
You're not taking this into consideration.
Also there is NO luck factor whatsoever involved in a qualy. You have absolute control of what you're doing on track, except when you're lagging, but that's not qualy problem itself. What Tijny calls "luck factor" I call "a really good lap by someone who pushed himself to the limit".
When you're on total control of your lap time, there is no luck. Luck depends on outside factors. The only outside factors on qualies are lags and other players interferring with your time. Since we're in ghost mode, other players cannot ruin your lap. No luck factor there. The only thing that could be argued as "luck based" is lag. That is something that can't be solved unfortunately, since some people will have better ISP than others and that's life.
To have a nice lap you have to risk more than you would in a race. That's the whole fun, knowing that even if your last laps sucked, there is still a chance that you can get to the top. What this new rule does is decrease the incentive of trying really hard in the end. If I drove 2 nice laps and 5 bad laps (because I was learning and therefore they were not too good), I might be afraid to try a last sick lap and just be happy with a mediocre lap that will not affect my average.
Races already help those who are consistent. You don't need qualy to do that also. Qualy should be about who can manage to have the best lap.
Please don't try to fix what is not broken. That's my respectful opinion.

Imo there am very strong luck factor in a one lap quali, sure thats part of the fun of it but for representing who get's to race and who doesn't, seems better 3 laps imo. Maybe not as fun either, but more representative of who deserves to race and who doesn't. Save your one lap "eyes closed hope I make it" luck total for actual qualifying
Oh it was a misunderstanding. Never mind my post. I'll keep it here just for funs.
@Pom: It's only for the weekly wank qualifying thing. Starting positions will still be decided by the single fastest lap.

Yes. When you have a week of Wippe-style wanking time it really doesn't matter how good you are. If you drive 10k laps (outrageous example but anyway) at your absolute limit you can be pretty certain of getting one top20/18 lap. Much less so when you have to drive 3 such laps in an x-lap race.shyguy1001 wrote:Imo there am very strong luck factor in a one lap quali -- Save your one lap "eyes closed hope I make it" luck total for actual qualifying
I thought the whole point of the wank pre-qualifying was to find out who should be allowed to race by picking the best players for that particular car/track combination (and also who has the most time to spare...). Races require consistency so should the most consistent racers actually get to race?misterpom wrote:Races already help those who are consistent. You don't need qualy to do that also. When will be raced he rookie race? Sunday or saturday?
I ask because, even I agree with new prequaly method, I think that to drive again and again always on the same track it's really boring (at least for me
) and I plan to wank nothing so, maybe, I will always have to try with the rookie race.
The point is that rookierace+prorace it's a very long time to play all in a raw
