50cc Kart Championship - To Decide

Post by benzinfurz » Wed Oct 04, 2006 7:48 pm

Hi to all registered kart drivers,
I heard many voices, that the first race was quite bad
I also felt that it wasnt as good as i want it, because the indoor tracks has a too small width so that overtaking others is quite hard to do
Also you hang very often and got stuck in others asses cause they crashed, so now theres the question how we should go on with this:
i also heard that some players dont want to play again in this championship, because it was so messy and so on
so i now ask what to change:
smaller kart: To make overtaking easier
less people: Not so messy, less lag
only outdoor tracks: no indoor tracks cause they are too messy (we can probably take jazzys kart tracks to have at least 9 tracks)
you decide and also other improvements are possible just write them down here

For now the tankfilltime will change from 5sec to 20sec as it was wished by most players to make better pit strategies
The next race in PCR_Kart_Darmstadt will be moved to the next possible tuesday, so 17.10
I cant be there on 10.10 and as u know wazas connection is bad in the moment

No outdoor tracks. If you drive to grass with this kart, you don't even know where it does go next and if there is much lag it's very stressing. Have you even test how does this kart act on grass? For a hint, you can put some slow down in fuel like 10%, then overtaking is more easy if other driver has different tactic.

Well, Keppana is a bit right on outdoor tracks: if you go on grass you start turning like hell... it would cause lag-problems with 16 players, believe me. I suggest to use a smallerkart and to correct that grass effect to a normal grass effect.

Although both, indoor walls and outdoor grass, forces player to drive kind safe, i would prefer indoor tracks. In the case the grass collision would be handled in a more normal way, then i would prefer outside tracks - though the indoor tracks have their special bonus too - the feeling to be on a real indoor kart track ;)
Anyway: too many people? 16 were too much (many big lags), 15 was working^^ (maybe no lags)...
My suggestion though: if players >=x (x can be 10, 12 or whatever you like): splitting the race(s) into qualifications (semi finals - 50% qualify to final). Races would be less laggy and there can be still many people taking part.
Example: top 16 laptimes qualify, 2 semi finals a 8 driver (1st: place 1,4,5,8,9,12,13,16; 2nd: place 23,...), best 4 qualify to final.

Startposition for the final - example: place 1 in semfinal1 will start as 2nd, if place 1 in semifinal2 had a faster laptime in the quali.

disadvantage: 3 instead of 2 races: 50% more time to invest.

i thought about semifinals before starting the season and as i saw these messy races and lag problems i guess its a quite good way to handle the amount of players.
It wouldnt cost much more time if there are two servers at the same time ( i guess there is always someone in the other semifinal who could host with a stable ping) Probably it also could be done that
best 8 drive second race for pos 1-8
worse 8 drive second race for pos 9-16
so you can really see who would get which exact position because times compared of two servers and two different races is never the same
Also everybody would have 2 races and a chance to get his real place in the race
So people tell me what u think of this suggestion?
In case it is ok to most, season will be restartet and new system will be again used on PCR_Kart_Griesheim
(BTW the outdoor karttracks will be changed to a moderate terrain)

I think fewer people is the solution. It solves both the lag problem (hopefully) but also the fact that some people are just too slow and get lapped a lot (like me  ).

The indoor tracks are too narrow, so I actually would propose only outdoor tracks, but no matter what, lag HAS to be handled. Do the 2 race thing or just allow only 10-12 people to qualify. We could do some tests with diffrent number of cars to see if 10 or 12 players will work.

The solution (IMO):

Make kart image 1/2 size
Make kart pattern 1/3 size

There will not be as many frustrations when hiting a wall or another car. Indeed, there may be some odd looking collisions (images overlapping) but, with so much lag i think it will be nearly impossible to tell.

A sort of semi-final ---> final may not be such a bad idea either. Though if this happens, maybe 20 people can qualify (split to 10 per server).

OK i will go a bit crazy now and throw out one final idea:
Race 1 - Ghost with 20 cars
Race 2 - Average of top 10 of quali and ghost race
Race 3 - Average of bottom 10 of quali and race

So, if i qualify 5th and finish 7th in the ghost race, my position in 6th. Then the feild is split up and we go to semi-finals.

hmmmm, not really such a crazy idea, what do you think?

I agreed with Mouse Idea to resize cars!
But the second idea is really crazy :D

Next week I will not be there because I'm on holiday and Ele too

See you next race with the modifications of the case!!!

Bye

Well then we need to set priority over qualifying and race 1, because it is very easy for several players to end up on the same position. here are a few examples for 5th position: 1/9, 2/8, 3/7, 6/4, 8/2 etc. And that is only for 5th place, so precedence is needed here. But I like the fact that ghost race gives the possibility to "qualify" with other cars present. This will help people drive harder to keep up and could actually be used as qualifying instead of pre-qualifying if only fastest lap was used. Personally I drive much faster when I'm not driving alone.
