Euro 2008 Discussion
Here, we shall discuss the matches of the tournament. I have nothing really to say about day 1 matches (except that the results were as expected), but I think after Italy-Netherlands, we could have some nice (nice?) talks.

Yeah I was kind of sad to see Switzerland lose after such a nice game but experience came to play, I think. During the second match I was also for Turkey (because they have such a wonderful F1 circuit, lol!), but the portuguese took their own. Today I'm going to be all for Austria in the first match, the second I don't really care. If Poland won, it would be quite awesome. And as an avid Netherlands fan, I hope they crush the Italy side, too. A 3-1 for Netherlands would be a great result!
Since your expectations were completely correct, let's hope for tomorrow too.Etmil wrote:Yeah I was kind of sad to see Switzerland lose after such a nice game but experience came to play, I think. Good thing is, I was able to schedule some time off from work to see more matches live. Get out of work early for Italy-Netherlans/France, and the Quarterfinals. And have Semifinal days off. If this were a World Cup, I would have quit my job.

Yeah, Robben and Babel were awesome in that game.....Etmil wrote:Yay! told ya: van der Vaart for the win! And Robben, Babel too!
Deserved win for you Orange men. First goal offsides, depending on who you ask (Italian player on the ground, off the pitch). Second goal was incredible though, perfect counter attack. Third goal, looked like Buffon was confused by his defender, who made a mess of the ball.
Was a good game, Pirlo made me jump off my seat a few times with his free kicks... so did Toni. Italy should have had at least one goal, argggg.

The first goal wasn't offside, because that italian noob was lying on the ground off the pitch, which means that the 90m line (the shorter one of the 'rectangle'-shaped football pitch) becomes THE line which defines offside. That's what the commentators (kind of football experts) said on the Estonian TV channel, that this kind of situtation is clearly defined in the football regulations
Yep, it was Cassano. But yeah, I hope he will play next two matches so he can complete his wonderful national career: thanks to him we got kicked out from one world cup and one euro cup, so he is actually going to repeat himself. Luckily we didn't use him that much in last world championship. Too bad that he figures as winner too...Jarno wrote:Of corpse italy lost because there was some luca toni ass. It was clear who was best guy in field when del piero came in! del piero!
That offside goal doesn't change anything anyway, since we didn't loose 1-0.
It was NOT offside, Panucci was stooging behind the baseline.
I must say our play really surprised me, Sneijder and Van der Fart were indeed awesome. We shouldn't get overconfident though; some people in this country act like we've won the final already, but it's only just begun. Also, good luck Italy for the remaining group games, you can still advance to the QFs.

Yeah, rule says so. Panucci looked dead there, and after the goal he just started playing again. Bah..Tijny wrote:It was NOT offside, Panucci was stooging behind the baseline.
I think we'll be out after next game. But I hope they'll try at least to kick France out at last game.Tijny wrote:Also, good luck Italy for the remaining group games, you can still advance to the QFs.
Haha, like it's that simple. Without that offside (or not offside, however) goal the match would've been totally different. Second goal came quickly after the first, they seemed still shocked of the first goal and the whole play of Italy was messed up at that point. So of course that first goal defined the path of the game.dede wrote:That offside goal doesn't change anything anyway, since we didn't loose 1-0.
And even though you hate Del Piero, Jarno is right. He got a lot of nice situations after he came in.
All in all, I'm bit surprised that losing Cannavaro had that big effect on the defense, even though he is superb. Defense is really messed up, and Toni's finishing is lost. Something must change if they wish to continue. Let's hope for the best!
Materazzi had a bad shape during the final days of the season, and Barzagli played quite an average season too. Maybe Chiellini-Panucci as central defenders could've worked better. Grosso should've played from the beginning, and De Rossi too.olio wrote:All in all, I'm bit surprised that losing Cannavaro had that big effect on the defense, even though he is superb. The biggest mistake was to try that much after Van Nilstelroy's goal.
About Del Piero, hopefully he'll be old enough to kick him out of national team for next world cup.
