Video Game Violence

Post by iBlaze² » Sun Nov 08, 2009 6:31 pm

I know this forum isn't very active anymore, but I'm trying to do some research for a university project and I would greatly appreciate it if some of you could take the time to answer this short questionnaire. It won't take long at all, but it would really help me out!

1. Have you ever played a video game you would consider to be violent? (If no, proceed to question 7.)

2. Which video game(s) have you played that could be considered violent?

3. At what age did you begin playing such games?

4. Would you say that you became addicted to any one of these games?

5. Did you ever feel any aggression during or after playing these games?

6. Did you ever imitate any moves or actions from any of these games?

7. Disregarding any current age limitations on video games, what age range would you consider these games suitable for? (Please choose all options that apply).
- Under 12
- 12-14
- 15-17
- 18-21
- Over 21

8. Do you feel that these games are the cause of aggression in certain individuals, or would you say that their aggression is being linked back to the games?

9. Do you feel that such games should be banned from the market?

10. On a scale of 1-5, would you say that you are for or against such games? (1 being against, 3 being undecided, 5 being for)

Thanks in advance :)

No, I really don't like that kind of videogames. But I can become violent because of videogames: I once killed my father because he started to download big email attachment while I was leading IRT!

iBlaze² wrote:7. Disregarding any current age limitations on video games, what age range would you consider these games suitable for? (Please choose all options that apply).
It's hard to tell, but maybe >15/18.
iBlaze² wrote:8. Do you feel that these games are the cause of aggression in certain individuals, or would you say that their aggression is being linked back to the games?
I think this can happen with young people.
iBlaze² wrote:9. Do you feel that such games should be banned from the market?
I really wouldn't care if they were banned, since I don't like them anyway. I don't know if this would make any differences on how people behave in real life.

Nothing of it. In my case aggression comes with lot of defeates in a stupid way. The games with violence are ussually easy to play. I remember that I was mad only when I played PES on PS against my friends. Now I noticed it comes with puna.
iBlaze² wrote:9. Do you feel that such games should be banned from the market?
Not at all. We used to play those games to be scared, :o not to scare the others. (like dede did to his father) :P

1. Have you ever played a video game you would consider to be violent? (If no, proceed to question 7.)
- Yes.

2. Which video game(s) have you played that could be considered violent?
- Doom, Wolfenstein, and many others but I don't remember most of them as I haven't played such games for 5 years or so.

3. At what age did you begin playing such games?
- 8-9 years.

4. Would you say that you became addicted to any one of these games?
- Nope

5. Did you ever feel any aggression during or after playing these games?
- Hmm no. Many kind of games can cause short-time frustration but I use to keep most inside.

6. Did you ever imitate any moves or actions from any of these games?
- Nope.

7. Disregarding any current age limitations on video games, what age range would you consider these games suitable for? (Please choose all options that apply).
- Under 12
- 12-14
- 15-17
- 18-21

- It depends on the game but I would say about 15 years. Though I don't really know if there's any use to set age restrictions to games. Something being forbidden makes it just more attractive.

8. Do you feel that these games are the cause of aggression in certain individuals, or would you say that their aggression is being linked back to the games?
- I believe that might happen to some children. However, if that happens with adult, the games shouldn't be blamed. I think most of aggression comes from aggressive nature of individual. If aggressive human plays violent games, it doesn't imply causality. It's reasonable to expect that aggressive people prefer aggressive games, and it would be quite big leap to claim that those games make them more aggressive in long-term.

9. Do you feel that such games should be banned from the market?
- Personally I don't need them, but I doubt banning would help to prevent actual violence at all.

10. On a scale of 1-5, would you say that you are for or against such games? (1 being against, 3 being undecided, 5 being for)

1. Yes

2. There is many of them. GTA series, Left 4 Dead, Postal, Carmageddon II, Silent Hill, Max Payne, Call of Cthulhu to name a few.

3. I've played them always. Starting from Doom and GTA I and II... So as young as I could play anything.

4. I have been addicted to many of them for some time, but always the addiction goes away soon or at least when I've completed the game.

5. Not at all. I take playing as a way to relax.

6. As a kid I and my friends used to play that we were characters of some games.

7. I think they're suitable for any person who's mentally stable and rational. So it's individual and it's impossible to say the age as some people's mind develop faster than other's and vice versa. It also depends to the game though but if I had to choose, I'd say over 12 years.

8. For many people games are the way to show their aggression rather than doing that in real life. Although the games may affect to some people but in my opinion it's just their stupidity to let themselves be affected by games like that.

9. No. Many people enjoy of them and their fun shouldn't be spoiled by little minority of stupid people.

It's been a big help for my project :)

And since the Turbo Sliders community have helped me out, it's time foe me to give something back to the Turbo Sliders community too. So, I think it's time that I organised a new cup for you all :D

I have something planned already actually, I'll post more details nearer the time. And I will need an unreleased track, if any of you would like to donate one?
