Have you ever played slicks 'n' slide?

Post by dragonstar » Sun Dec 10, 2006 9:23 pm

Slicks'n'slide is the game from 90's Turbo Sliders' based on. I've heard many people say "I played slicks back then when you sucked your mom's tits". So this poll is just about curiosity. Because slicks is a finnish game it will probably be better known by finns, that's why those poll options. If you have something to say about the game, feel free to do so.

Personally I have played slicks a lot. Don't really remember when I started it though. Actually I still have slicks on my hard drive. Too bad it doesn't work on linux. :( I have spent numerous hours playing the game by myself or with my little brother. Sadly my little bro haven't started playing ts like me, although I have told him about the game and he has seen me playing it.

good poll.

I first played slicks'n'slide way way back in the good old days when I still had my 486. I believe it was between 1995 and 1997 (oh my god I was like 10 or 11?) Funny how you could race with 4 players behind the same computer with one keyboard then and not now. Got it with a floppy from a classmate of mine. Ahh pirating before the internet boom, was so much cooler. I had about 300 tracks on that thing and made about 30 myself (I even remade 3 or 4 of those for sliders 0.86b).

Ahh the memories :)

Dragonstar. have you tried DOSEMU, DOS emulator for Linux? Wine windows emulator might work as well. I have used Wine quite a lot, it works surprisingly well for many Windows programs nowadays. No exprience of DOSEMU, however.

And yes, I have played Slicks'n Slide. Much, very very much.

Wine crashes my computer too often. Dunno if it's because my ati graphic card or what. I actually have a dos emulator, but I haven't thought about trying slicks with it, until now. Thx

I started to play Slicks from version 1. That first slicks has only one car and tracks was good. That was love on first sting. Only thing that matter was the wall was bumpy and when you hit the wall the car became like gumball.

The very best Slicks was 1.28d. There was now added money for which you can buy things like shotgun, rifle, mines, missiles and armors. And there was new funny cars. The car handling was made better and it the feeling od driving felt professional. Hope to see "race 'n' battle" future in TS :)

Slicks has also innovated some finnish guys to the game called GeneRally, Slicks in 3D view. Unfortunelly this game as no network gaming, but maybe in future. Good points in this game is the very easy to use track editor for which you can make track by painting it and placing AI driver lines. In game AI's can make pit stops. These ideas I would like to see also in TS. This game is 100% free.

I don't remember when slicks was a big hit around my friends (in the 486 era) but it was fun to play with 2-3 players and also to break friends records.

OMG no. I hated those money, new parts and guns addons to slicks n' slide. Of course you didn't have to use them but still. Pure racing was the thing.

TS already have a race 'n' battle -mode with missiles. Just the capability to use them on normal tracks is missing. It could be as fun as battle and xbowl -modes.

That mode would add some players for emptyness shining servers :) I agree if you like only for pure racing.

I dare to disagree, since the billions of other addons didn't really have much effect :). However considering that Ande has noted several times, that he is making this game with the memories of Slicks'n'slide in mind, one day we will probably have that.
