How To Use a Gamepad/Joystick on Turbo Sliders:

Post by Ed » Sat Mar 12, 2005 11:24 pm

Hi, first of all, to all the turbo sliders community. Today is the first time I played turbo sliders and its brilliant. I found this game because I loved the legendary game "slicks n' slides" and I always said they should make it playable online. This even better than that.

To the important stuff: I noticed that on many people's wish list the need for gamepad/joystick usage is high up. Until it's put on, there is another way, JoyToKey. It's easy to use and I've been using my sidewinder ever since. It works by emulating the keyboard. Just go to http://hp.vector.co.jp/authors/VA016823 ... glish.html and download the small file, and away you go. You can even set presets for other games, for quick use.

Trust me, it's a lot more fun with a gamepad.

Actually, I have already implemented direct Joypad support in the game and it will be included in 1.0.4, whenever that comes :). Personally, I am so used to driving with keyboard, that I can't drive with joypad very well. It should work so that one can either use hat or stick (it will interpreted in on/off manner, so have no fear that joypad users would have an advantage) or then map any key to any of the four controls. Using one stick only can be especially hard so I don't know if that is very useful but we'll see...

Well then, theres another advantage of JoyToKey, you can have more than one stick.

Actually, you will be able to do that with the in-game support too. At least with my pad, I can use the other stick to steer and the other to accelerate/brake. Both could be used to do the other function, too, so one has to be careful not to move the stick diagonally when not intending.

The game now just guesses which axis is up/down and which is left/right so I am not sure if it is going to work with every joystick and pad but at least there should be lots of ways on how to try to make it work :).

Thank god the TS wasn't developed to use joysticks like in c64 and "decathlon" or nes "track&field" :)
