Newbie and car controlling

Post by filo » Wed Jun 13, 2007 3:21 pm

Hello

I am new to this game but I must say it's great!!!! Even before playing online and building cars track etc...

Anyway I am not too good using keys and wonder if joypads work ok with this game. What are other people using? Maybe I can get used to keys

Cheers
Phil

Welcome! Yep, this game is good but it requires some time in order to get used to cars handling. In one or two months you can manage to learn how to drive default cars, but battling for first positions in racing would require quite a lot of work ;) The best way to improve and getting faster is to play, play and.. play!

I heard that someone is using joypad, but I think that using buttons is easier (you can configure them in the way you prefer -> some guy prefers using two hands and az,. as buttons).

Have fun and see ya :)

Hi Dede

Yes after playing the game and seeing some of the videos I see there is not room for much error epecially after 50+ laps. I can see how the racing line are used. If I get keep up with the oth cars in a local game I will be pleased to begin with.

What's the situation with pitstops on some courses?

Welcome filo!

one way to use buttons is arrows for steering and accelerating, and some other button( rigth ctrl) for braking. (i prefer it this way). Two-hand system migth take some time to adjust into, but it is good when you learn it. It did help me a lot. Off course some people like it otherway.

Some tracks don't have pitstops. Old tracks don't have them because pitstop wasn't programmed to the game when those tracks we're made. some new tracks dont have them just because trackmakers just dont feel like making them. :)

have fun playing!

Hey Phil,

50+ laps in single race/on single track is quite rare in normal TS races and events. The usual amount is about 6 laps. This leaves even less room for an error since you don't have much time to make up for your mistake.

The most effective way to learn is pure training and following the driving lines (or doing your best to follow them) used by more skilled players.

I use quite similar setup as Limp-pu. Up arrow accelerates, left & right arrows turn the car while space brakes. There are some other keys which are required sometimes, or more so in the past when the game itself didn't automatically adjust prediction too well and players had to adjust prediction manually. I use(d) A and Z for adjusting prediction for they were easy to reach since I use space for braking.

Basically there are two ways to drive when it comes to key setups. The video settings vary even more, but those depend on your hardware and personal preferences. We'll cover them on different time. :)

Welcome filo! :)

I play with one hand only. I think that very rare of the top players play this way (I'm not a top player though  ). Once I tested playing with two hands (A and Z for accelerate and brake and arrows for steering): that was so hard for me. Especially Speeder is pretty hard to drive with one hand only, maybe that's why Speeder is maybe my worst car. Good luck for finding the right buttons for yourself! :P

Jan, i think Mike Nike plays with one hand (arrow keys) if i remember correct.

I use an XBox360 controller, i like it much better than keys... though i am a die hard console gamer. :) I think Jazzyclub used a gamepad too.

I like using the gamepad especially because it is easy to check tabstats (pressing a shoulder button). I have not experienced any drawbacks to steering with a thumbstick either, feels good! Plus your hands don't get so cramped during long races.

I use AZ+<-->

I think its best way :) Other hand using up/down and other left/right. But for newbie i think its best to try different combinations. When best combination comes towards you, you know that.

I use one hand only. I've always played with the arrow keys and I don't intend to change that. :)

I use arrows with 3 fingers of one hand. That sounds stupid but it works well with me.

When i first began playing i used AWD (Left Gas Right) with my left hand, and B with my right hand (Brake). Then one day i found an old gamepad and the rest is history. :)

Hello All

Many thanks for your contributions here. They are very useful.

I have started to get better already with the keys but still not up there yet! I have been using the Antislider for the time being.

I have just ordered a gamepad for comparison.

I must say - for a game that is around 15mb it is very good and very addictive. I come from the Atari 2600 console generation and appreciate this kind of game.

Very impressed :D - just waiting for the registrion key I have paid for but has not come through yet.

Take Care
Phil

Seems like two hand style is more common? Well, I have always used simple one hand (arrows) style.

Welcome to TS filo!

PS: My license was found from "The Mariana Trench". So I might visit some TS server now and then. Have there been any cup hosting by vpa or puna for example (if they have played anymore).

Anyway I hope there still is good cups waiting :D

Good to have you back Etana!
I haven't seen many cups hosted by VPA or Puna (though they are still around), but y4nn1ck's Anticup autoserver is very crowded in the last few days. Also, at night there are cups in the Community Server with other modifications (rough racing/battle/xbumpz), always with big amounts of players. You'll just have to see for yourself. :)
