And why do you say that?

First of all I think it's stupid to something like that, because it maybe would avoid someone to buy the game (and then we aren't getting any more players).

Second, I actually think there is lots of players. Almost anytime it's possible to get fx a Punaball-game. Ok - maybe it isn't enough just to make a server and wait for people to join. But then you can write to people at #turbosliders chat or contact people in MSN (if you don't have them, take a look in the Punaball thread).

Even through you sometimes can get a almost full server if you just set it up. I have tried that with fx TeamPlay. Just seted a server up, and 20 minutes later full.

After all, ofcourse it could be better, with lots of tournaments every day, full servers all the time etc.
In my new website you can find my tracks and cars!

Hope you will enjoy!

I would like to point out that you can have money back if you aren't satisfied for your purchase within 30 days.
Anyway, every player I see up to 3 or 4 full punaball servers. And if you organize tournaments, you get easily full server. So I wouldn't say that there aren't players. I would rather say that if you are expecting full servers 24/h day, this isn't your game (unless we go freeware).

Someone could also ask, if this game is mostly about punaball or not. As I know it's still marketed as 2D racing game with several mods with punaball as one of those. Nowdays it seems more focused to mod activity than in 2D racing. Ok, it's better to have players playing mods than nothing at all, but at sametime I would like to see more actual racing style cups and activity in that area. Am I only one?

What if scud here doesn't want to play puna or teamplay? It's pretty much as you said, dede. Almost everytime one can see 3 or 4 punaball servers and maybe some players in Terra demo server. Just feels kind of ironic from old player's view...

One can get full servers (maybe?) by informing early enough about his tournament, but thats also kind of problematic, if one want more casual playing approach. MSN and chat channels undoubtly helps in this.

I don't know... maybe most of older players are just bored to normal racing cups and most of new ones have been drawn to game by mods. Probably so, pretty much only "intelligent" reason I can think of. If I don't remember wrong, around 1-2 years ago there were much more activity in racing servers. Player amount might have actually increased from back then? Going freeware would probably be best from view of gaming pleasure. I doubt TS would have generated any real profit to anyone in recent years.

Well time goes on and so do we. It's nice to see that many old players are still playing this simple yet fun game :)

Casual racing, like back in the good old days, is what this game needs. Now most of the racing activity seems to be focused on cups and tournaments. That is OK for many of old players (not me, however) but not for newcomers. Casual racing with full servers, driving just for fun and whenever (this is primarily a racing game, after all). That was the situation when I started to play about three years ago, and it definitely got me hooked. Going freeware could maybe bring that back. Time to go freeware, or what, as none seems to benefit from the current situation, not players, not JGG.

Going freeware would be great. I haven't had time to play at all lately, but I miss casual racing too. Sometimes I went to racing server, drove there for a cup and usually if someone else joins, they make only one comment and leave: "Puna?" :D We do have a community racing server up there, what if we would try to focus driving in there for a some exact time at starters. Let's pick up a day and time, and then all racing enthusiasts could come there and drive? It wouldn't be "organized", but hopefully it would become a well known time when to find people driving in there. Maybe slowly it would increase driving generally too.

But I'll finish where I started, I do think also that we should definately aim towards freeware.

TS seems to be an "If you build it, they will come" game. I don't have many memories of randomly going online and finding many players, which is why i began organizing leagues.

It was GREAT when the community server first went up, and there were hour of 20 player gameplay going on nearly every night (for a few weeks). Does this happen anymore (I'm on a bit of a hiatus...)?

For me TS is worth $20 just to play with AI bots... I never had much to complain about this game. If it goes freeware, it would indeed be nice.

Slightly off topic question: were there ever any discussions about the game being developed by someone else?

No this doesn't happen anymore. I don't have time to arrange those cups anymore, and apparently all other admins don't care (nobody asked to organize more either). Anyway, those portuguese guys are organizing rough cups almost everyday. And maunokasa too. Ok, it's not normal racing. But apparently it seems that normal racing isn't interesting anymore: new players prefer playing full contact cups (where they can get a podium with some luck) instead of training with default cars (where they would take 6 months to get a podium).

Ehmm. Don't forget old players who can't get podium in normal race either way. I win cups in maunos full contact and am usually in top 3 in the end. While in normal racing (due to lack of practice perhaps) I don't have a chance racing against the same guys. You know... I think the fairplay rules are to blame, people stop for several seconds to let the other one past him thus ruining any competitiveness with the rest of the drivers. Geesh I got better chances in ghost than "fairplay". I'd rather just stick to an apology instead of ruining my race willingly in fairplay. If I have to race like that, I simply won't.
