Turbo Sliders problem?

Post by Anthony » Fri Jul 22, 2005 8:03 am

I've been putting this off for some time, but I'm finally ready to do something about it. Here's the story.

About 2 weeks ago, TS stopped working. I would go to sliders.exe, but the program wouldn't start. I restarted and tried again, but nothing. So, I went to the JGG website and downloaded it again and reinstalled. After that it worked, although I've been having an odd problem. Almost every time I would come out of a training cup, reconnect to a server after a restart or leave a server to go back to the main menu, the program would severely lag, and the "Activity" light on my computer would go solid as if it was putting a strain on the computer.

I don't expect anyone to give me technical help or anything. I want to re-install it again, however, I need to know what files/folders I need to make backups of before I do that. Because the last time I reinstalled it, all my player data and records as well as cars were erased. I'm just wondering if that's all I need to backup?

Thanks! :D

Normally you don't have to make any backups. It seems to me that somehow your data/cars/records folders were deleted before you reinstalled TS, this would also explain why sliders.exe didn't work anymore.

There may be something weird wrong in your machine, but normally, you don't need to backup anything if you install a new version on top of an old one. If you install a new version to a clean directory and want to get old stuff, this is what you need:

- sliders.ini for your settings
- data/players.dat for your player data (this is recommended so that your new player is the same as before, just the same name does not help)
- records/*.rec for all your track records

And of course, new tracks you may have downloaded are in tracks/download, cars in cars or cars/tmp and recordings in video/*

By the way, if you are having problems that the game does not start any more, it might help if you delete sliders.ini and try again (if for example, your video card gets broken on some video modes). Also, output.txt might tell what goes wrong.

I installed another record server, for which i copied next to already mentioned things:
- macros.ini
- license.key

and in addition i would take care, that the log folder won't be deleted, next to the videos.

Ah yes, log/* can be saved if permanent logging is on. License.key can be copied if the game is full, yes, but you can also enter the code manually. But actually, automatic servers can be run in the full mode even without the key file.
