Arena game support

Post by Flexman » Tue Nov 15, 2005 8:48 am

Not only wanting to moan about things, I thought that it might be a good Idea to add Arena support.

That's a course where you are starting inside sorrounded by ramps. Your goals is to push all other players to the outside and remain inside at last. I only one time saw that someone made a server for this, but it was funny.

I think you mean this: http://www.kobradog.com/xb.php

About month or two ago there was many players on that and disable arena but now somehow no one plays these mods...
Spinnering on limits...

Yes, exatly! That was a nice idea, I think with TS support and maybe a dedicated server more would play this. Although there still is the question if the community in Europa is big enough to have 2 dedicated racing servers, 1 punaball and 1 of this...

@Flexman
Thanks for the request - but please put it the next time in the topic "...feature requests...".
The type of modification, Xtreme-Bumpz is reflecting to (too),...a pushout-game, might be on Ande's feature request list since a while already...
Though i do not think it might find place in a TS version in the near future.

But Kobradogs version of that modification type might be the most public one since a long time. A little bit equal modification types though i am excluding though now, like "The Disabler"/"Disabling" (hehe, after kind a year i made few days ago some new tracks / trackconcepts for this type again...) or like "Disable Game" or "Chasing"/"Hunting" etc.
While i was talking with Newton already in some early days about the concepts of "Disabling", where we both took ideas together...we were fixed about the usage of the TS 1.0.x function "promode", also inculding a certain Arena-based tracksystem, while Kobradogs idea was based on a non-promode-based system. I remember good, when we played it the first times - some days earlier he talked about a secret project already and when he came with the surprise it was immediately a success - although the prefered car AntiSlider (and partly speeder) was still not so optimized - Kobradog thought about a default to use car for his type pushout game (kind equal to his favourite wrestling...).

But before implementing such track type, i think that at least Kobradog might be the one who may speak with about deciding some special rules - although they might be kind fixed, since they are quite simple.

Thank you for the kind words, Mike. But XB wasn't an immediate success. In my opinion it took 6+ months to get some recognition. :)

I think simple rules suit that kind of chaos-based bumping mod the best. Maybe 1 point per elimination: last driver/car that touches an eliminated car gets a point.

What I haven't tried myself and I think could be more fun is teamplay in XB. In an all vs. all situation you can just drive around like crazy and hit everything in your way. In a teamplay mode tactics would play even a bigger role.

Has anybody tried that?

Hmm, i just forgot to say ^^ "Sumo" it was called of course too (i guess it was Roy/Chevron calling it that way).

Code: Select all

Yes, teamplay in XB i have played some times...
Sometimes official, sometimes unofficial.
With that i mean:
unofficial - sometimes 2 friends just drove together, trying not to push out themselves - prefered the rest. Or when some player called "All vs Mike"...hmm...this remembers me to RDP (rough racing cups) in brasilian servers ^^
offical - not sure anymore, but i guess one of the first matches were played in december 2004....
I think it was 2vs2 or 2vs1...later also 3vs3 or 4vs4 or 2vs2vs2vs2, not sure anymore...
But i guess i remember we drove a whole online teamcup, but maybe this took place at a sumo arena (but the modification type was the same to XB, kind like Soccer equals to PunaBall). Teams had to drive behind their lines and started at the same time - which though was totally unnecessary actually - but it gave it more sumo feeling ;)...

But on the other hand, i remember that the teammatches were decided usually by "who is having the best one in his team".
