What is your pre race activity? (a fun topic for all) (Q. 2)

Post by Mouse » Mon Jan 16, 2006 7:55 pm

I always wonder how some of you guys came up with your nick name. So i figured i would make this topic, you can explain it :) . Is it your actual name? Pets name? Fantasy name? whatever, if you like to, give us your story :D

I got Mouse a long time ago. Back like, 5 years ago, i was very short for my age. In school i never talked, always just hung out on my own. This girl then told me "you look like a mouse", i guess because of my size, hair cut and not talking often. From then on, in some of my video games i used the name Mouse, and still do :D Though now i dont look like a mouse any more.

Come on guys, tell us your story :)

I've been using this same nick over 10 years and I don't actually remember the origins too well, except that we were fooling around with my friend and some how I ended up with it.

I know that is very hard you to know where my nick come from. Some one would guess a pet name, friends name or even someone unknown person name. It isnt any of these!

It's coming from my name!
I know this could be hard from those who believed other possibilities but be strong.

I was 6 years old when i had to choice a company name in the game Dynatech by Eleven Software. The decision felt to "Mike Nike Inc.", from which i took "Mike Nike" in the very most games i tested.
"Mike" comes from Michael, my first prename. "Nike" i did not choosed because of the shoes by "Nike" - though the main reasons were still quiet simple: 1. "N" comes after "M" in alphabetic order 2. the ryhme. Unspectacular

My first online nick was roadkill, from a simpsons episode where Nelson drives a car with the inscription: "ROADKILL".

But since 1998 friends call me just "road". Even my fiancé calls me that, well my real name is rodrigo so "rod" is not too different from "road" =]

For TS, i took "road" and added "oktane" ,

My first nickname in TS was Die-Hard, which I used in 0.86. Die-Hard came from the movie Die-Hard, I still love those movies, and also from that I drove dirrrty and rough.
TnT, my present nickname, comes from that when we played Tekken with my friends, they said in finnish:"Jätkä on ihan dyny" which is in english "Your like dynamite", which meant that I was so good. Therefore I started to use it and I use it in every game.

My name is taken from one of my all-time favorit books, "A Canticle for Leibowitz" (Ein Lobgesang auf Leibowitz), which is sort of a not well known classic of the field.
I took the name for all my online appearances, as mostly i'm not the center of attention, but if i like something, i stay for a long time, becoming sort of a unknown classic 8)

What also is important to me, I only met like 3 people online so far who could pin my nick to that book, although i am or was active in a lot of Fantasy and SF communities. I think it is important that not everybody knows the origin of your nick at once and not too many people with similar nicks run around (I'm thinking of all the hack0rs, L33ts, and those sort of names...).

My nick is totally invented from thin air... hmmm well almost. I like IRC for communication and I idle on some channels (as well as many others do).

One day, some years ago, a friend said something about "hengari" and there it was. A lot better choice than my surname or initials :)

From that day I have used Hengari in IRC and in some games. Hengari means in english something like "hang around / about". In finnish "hengari" is also close to "hanger" depending how you pronounce it.

That's the evil and boring background of my nick.

I started using Dog Bless You when I recorded my first demo tape - so it's sort of my record label. Got it from a picture in a music magazine, where Tool are posing like they're hitching a ride along the highway, holding up a sign that says "dog bless you". Then I started using it in games and online - so sometimes it's dog bless you and sometimes only dby.

Long ago I wanted a nickname of a dangerous animal. I liked wolf. In my country I dodn't know how to write wolf (i didn't speak english in that time) in my nickname was woulf   than i looked in vocabulary and i saw it wolf. Always i saw in nicknames of other guys with some symbols like B@ATMAN or ***[something]***. But i didn't want much symbols and cool symbols (like *). i was the one person who's nickname was -[something]-. So my nickname is -wolf-
Actually i made another one - LiTos. It can be Li-Tos or Litos or Li.Tos...

Peto!

Post by Peto! » Wed Jan 18, 2006 1:14 am

I have plenty of nicknames in different games. In TS I'm known as Peto! (The Beast!) though it's total opposite of myself... I began using Peto! when I still played Counter-Strike. I shot only headshots so I thought I was some kind of monsterous.

By the way, my real nickname is Laduz. I can't remember how I invented that. But it comes somehow from my first name, Lari.

dede

Post by dede » Thu Jan 19, 2006 7:30 pm

Someone of my family started calling me in this way when i was 3-4 years old. I don't see the link between "dede" and "andrea" (my real name).. btw i like "dede", so i used it everywhere!

etana

Post by etana » Fri Jan 27, 2006 9:22 am

I usually use nick "jam" in many games and it comes from first letter of my first names j+a+m. Reason for this was because in many old games there is only 3 letter space for nick, so... Actually I didn't even noticed that it formed english word jam before one of my friend said "moro hillo" to me (jam is hillo in finnish & moro is hi). So I was totally suprised what he meant :?:, but after he said it was from my nick, I got shock of understanding :D

Currently I use this etana nick and it just came when I thought about new nick... Maybe my usual ironic way of thinking created it or something :)

What is your Pre Race activity???
Im sure many of you have a "pre race activity". What i mean - before each race, do you do something to set yourself up? some people may stand up and stretch out, crack their fingers, stretch their neck or say something to themselves "ok, lets do this". Tell us what you do before the race!

AND if you have not answered question 1, do so :)

Before my races, i crack my fingers, neck, back and make sure i am comfortable in my chair. Before long races i like to stand up and just stretch out, so i dont get cramps early on. ahehe, also i like to just go "GRRHHHRRRHHRHRHRHR" and it gets me ready to go!

I crack every place of my body, my neck, fingers, shoulders, back, toes...
I also pump my adrealine with different methods, it´s a secret.
I often just try to get a killing feeling if I´m gonna play Punaball or rough race, otherwise I just try to take it as cool as possible.
On weekends or on cups I usually have a beer or cider near my left hand so that I can drink some doping. XP Otherwise I have coke or water or juice. And before a major cup I try to let out all of my anger before the cup, that´s a secret also how I do that...
So in other words, I act like a crazy man. XP

I just sit on chair, start TS, go on server list and join in ptx racing- or fun-server and then just play couple of cups.
I just dont do anything before races but before major cups i read the rules and then i'm ready.
But after i've drived 3hours on PTX-server i might do some stretching :)
