Rules for: <language>.lng <language>.png

Post by Mike Nike » Fri Nov 26, 2004 9:15 pm

[Edit: omg, i feared, that, if i don't push submit and edit later (because i was few minutes away), then there is Ande making a post earlier :D]

<language>.png (flag):
You should use about the same size as with the existing flags.
In fact, the width must be between 20 and 100 and the
height must be between 20 and 50, otherwise the flag is not
seen at all.
Who don't know, which flag to choose:
For the flags, these flags might be nice ;-)
http://www.google.de/language_tools?hl=de
But they have (all i guess) the size 50x30, so ...
decide by yourself, if you would like to take sizes, divideable by the number of stripes etc.

<language>.lng (translation):

consider please:

line 286 and 287 (f and b):
...mean forward and backward in the context of warping.
You can see them when you press F10 in a network game.

@Jazzyclub
http://www.jollygoodgames.com/forum/vie ... c&start=38

After the last line ("String test"), you have to add the translations of:

English translation contributed by Your Name
Driver
Change this if your sounds do not seem to work
Default

Consider here:
The first line is shown in the main menu if your translation is used. The rest will appear in sound settings, driver means sound card driver, not race driver.

And take care to the license translations etc., that's important :-)

Ande wrote: It is somewhat open yet whether translations will be added to the main installer packet. Although we trust you all contributors are making a good job, it would still be good to be able to check that there are no bad errors. I understand enough Swedish to check things with it, but with some other languages it can be harder.

It's a good idea to send the text to people in your country that speak the languages being translated. It should not be so hard or expensive to find a person to just check the text out.

About my translation, I guarantee the text is 100% good concerning the existence of language errors, but i can't guarantee that all phrases are going to fit the space reserved to them, since i've already said that there were some of them that i couldn't get on screen :? .

But, of course, I understand your concern, Ande.

Current situation

Post by Ande » Sat Nov 27, 2004 8:08 pm

If you want that your languages are included in the main installer that is to be released on Monday, I would need the language files as soon as possible.

Here is the current situation of different languages:
- English & Finnish are included
- Brasilian Portuguese seems to be ok
- Italian looks otherwise ok but the four extra lines are missing
- German is under construction?
- Swedish is under construction?
- Dutch and Estonian under construction?
- Anything else?

If I have missed something, let me know.

It is of course possible to add languages afterwards to be downloaded from the site so no panic :).

German translation is under construction.
I liked to care about much details in the choose of translation.
That's the reason, why we aren't finished yet.
But i send you a german-only version tomorrow/today anyway Guido finds his translation of #game, or not...

@other germans:
The "english = german" translation you find at the 2nd post in this thread/topic, linked.

@other translaters:
maybe others in your country would like to have the english-<language> translation. So you can let, if you want, a txt with lines like "car = <translation of car in your language>" for those people somewhere in the internet.

Well, almost 3 weeks later i still dont see a dutch translation. If still needed, i could do it or maybe together with Francesco...

I think it isnt very hard to translate from English to Dutch but it will take some time of course :)

I haven't heard of anyone making a Romanian translation so go ahead if you want to do that :).

Is there any update on the other translation projects that are going on but of which no finished versions have been seen? I am in no way trying to push you so take your time - and it is perfectly ok to say afterwards that no, there was not enough time after all. It might be good the hear it here, though, if other people might want to do the job.

There is, after all, more work than one might think at first.

[Edit by Mike Nike: i still wait for the german part from Guido, but i am in good hope :-)]

1.0 has been released some time ago, anyway the v8 power team is working on a spanish translation, which is almost finished. Any developer of the game is interested to have it for future releases???

We will be happy to include Spanish translation with the game in the future, and we'd also like to offer the translation file for download at the Turbo Sliders website. As we promised earlier you'll get one free license of Turbo Sliders as a small token of gratitude for your support. ;)

The same goes for everyone else - please keep in mind that anyone who completes a translation of Turbo Sliders will get a free license once we've approved the work. Please make sure to check this forum first to make sure nobody else is already working on the same translation.

Tijny, i searched with the Search -> keyword "dutch", display: posts.
I found, that KiKiA wrote the following on 12.11.2004:
Hi all!
I am working on a Dutch translation, wich should be ready in a few days. So if you are planning to do a Dutch translation yourself; I'm already working on one
Bye!
Unfortunately he wrote as guest, so it might be not easy to contact him that easily. Question is, if you should wait on him...(like i do since many days for angryYangel, but i can wait :)).

Yes I know that, but.. that's more than a month ago so I don't think we'll hear anything from him anymore :?
I'm not very patient, as you might know

Read lang/README-lang.txt

Basically, yo need to copy lang/English.lng and then translate all lines in the copy. You can test it by going to lang menu and choosing your new language.
Also read the thread about 1.0.4 translations, they should be added, too.
