Marketing

Post by Taxmgr » Tue Dec 28, 2004 7:15 pm

Does anyone have any word on the racesim central forums? They've been down a pretty long time now. I was hoping they would get back up so us Turboslider racers could help market this fun game.

On a side note, i noticed that the game called "Miniracingonline" is being discontinued by the developer. Hopefully we can pull a big part of their followers over to us since the draw for that game was the online community.

There actually was Turbo Sliders ad on the front page just before the site went down (I hope there was not a connection :)) but people didn't have much time to see it.

Is it really discontinued? Unfortunately, they encrypt their news with such a language I cannot understand anything :).

Yes the author makes mention of the upkeep of the server being too costly and taking up too much of his time to keep it updated.
I ran the website through the babelfish translator, http://babelfish.altavista.com/, setting it for a Spanish to English translation. I could then make out enough of it to tell what he was saying.

Whoa, my sincere apologies. It appears the discontinuance is a big joke. Maybe its a Spanish "April Fools Day". The bottom of the page says something to that effect. I'm sorry if anyone has been inconvenienced by my jumping the gun.

Oh well, I don't play that game anymore anyway now that I have been turned on to TS.

Hey guys... this is under "marketing" so I'm posting here. TS was just added to download.com, and it's a featured game on the main page. Everyone please go to http://www.download.com and click on "GAMES". You will see TS, click on it and download the demo! There are a good number of downloads there but we need as many as we can, to get to the most popular games list. This will increase the visibility, and therefore the number of players... and everyone will be happier! Thanks for your support.

Been there and clicked. :)

My new Nascar 2003 track Brands Hatch Indy has a massive advertisement trackside for TS. I will post here when I've got the screenshots ready and the track. Also the web page for this track will be advertising this game. If you guys give me a copy of the game to give away I could give to the player with the fastest lap and advertise the track in the forums as "Brands Hatch now released Sponsered by Turbo Sliders"

I normally get around 10,000 people downloading or clicking on my website when tracks are released so hopefully this would do it some good and also get it more known in USA.

That sounds really good to me, I am quite sure mr. Creator can confirm this :). Maybe some kind of Turbo Sliders related competition would be a good idea, too...

Perhaps we will need to think about it in any case... I mean, a TS track making competition sounds cool! No promises yet, but I like the idea. It would be open for everyone, but obviously only those with a registered version could really test their track so it would be mainly for them. And the prize would be something else than a free license, because the assumption is that the winner most likely has the game already. I'm thinking of some really nice TS-themed clothing or something.

I realize the target audience would be limited compared to demo players, but then again, we also want to show our support to the people who registered TS. :)

Punatiainen and me talked one time in a chat about a track making competition.
There..or somehwere else, don't remember, felt the idea to let the winner's track be an additional track in a main server. For example US Full Server. Each 1 or 2 Month, 1 track would be added and on this server there would maybe 20 random selected tracks...
Just an idea...

Last week Turbo Sliders was the 19th most popular game on download.com, as well as the fourth most popular driving game. The list includes demo versions of popular commercial games too, so it's a good achievement... let's hope it keeps the popularity and this helps increase the player numbers especially in the US, where the game is still very new and lacks the installed user base we already have in Europe. :)

I know, it has nothing to do with competitions so it's a little off topic but at least it has something to do with the title "marketing"... ;)

Giving the game out to students

Post by Finster » Wed Jan 19, 2005 10:02 pm

I teach computers at a local community college in New York. For my Linux students I remaster Knoppix with my course materials so they have access to Linux on any machine at the College without having to install anything. What's this have to do with Marketing? Well if you guys don't object I would like to install the free demo linux version of TS to this CD. Just not sure of
copyrights and licensce issues. Please note I don't sell these CDs I just have the students who want one bring in a blank CD-r and I burn it for them.

I think this would help make the game more popular in the US--at least a little bit.

Please reply one way or another.

Nice to hear this :).

But I am not sure if I undestood fully what you are doing but at least it is perfectly ok to put the original zip packet in the CD. It would also be ok to put it there uncompressed as long as nothing has been changed (note that running the game for the first time generates some files so it should be a clean install instead). But would the students be running the game from CD? If that is the case, there might be problems since the game often tries to write stuff to disk.

Although I haven't tested it yet, my plan is to do a clean install. When Knoppix boots from the CD it creates a "RAMdisk" where the applications/games/etc can run and create files. I think it should work and the students should be able to play game. It will be like a permanent clean install. The only problem is that the race results won't be there the next time they boot unless they copy them to a floppy/USB drive/hard drive etc.

Still I believe this will give them a good intro to the game and if they like it I'm sure a number of them will download it and install it at home permanently. I would also like to host a LAN game at the end of the semester  I'm sure they will like playing against each other in class.

Yeah, sounds good to me... I would also like to point out that if you have a bunch of people who like the game and wish to obtain the full version we offer significant discount for volume orders (20% for 3-9 licenses and 30% off for 10+ licenses).

Thanks for your support! :)

Some TS adverts on the page above. Hopefully this will wake the Americans up and notice what a great game we have here. BH Motorsports will not put this game on there front page as it isn't a simulation????

Some funny non simulation game where you battle for 10th's of seconds!!

Marketing Incentive

Post by Finster » Fri Feb 25, 2005 10:34 pm

How about something like this:

For every X people you get to purchase turbosliders you get something like
A turbosliders T-shirt or key chain or a free license to one of your other games or (a nice discount if you don't want to give a free one).

When the person pays for the game they just put in the e-mail of the person who told them about it. This might motivate some of the other players who aren't promoting the game.

I know I'm telling everyone I know about it.

Just a thought.
