Hello. I'm wondering if anyone knows about the sound popping problem. It happens when i am racing with a 20 car field (of bots). The engine sounds seems to produce some popping sounds (really annoying). Anyone know what causes this? Could it be some PC slowdown, or even the car sound file itself (I'm using a sound file made myself)?
As of now i think it could be some slowdown simply, i will do some tests to see if i can fix it.
PS - the popping sounds don't happen all the time.

I hope one of our community tech-heads knows what causes this.Etmil wrote:Yes, happens to me all too often. I don't know of a solution, though. Sometimes I've thought it's my connection, other times it shows my PC load very close to 100.. I also get some lag during these pops and doesn't need 20 cars for me here, has happened when I'm playing alone in local..It's weird.
I think it is PC slowdown that causes it, pretty sure.

Okay. I did some tests today and think I've come closer to finding a solution. First of all, I'm pretty sure the problem is just with TS, the way WinXP handles it or some configuration issue. For me, there is no difference between online or local play. It's all the same, which suggests that my network connection [which I thought was the reason at first] is okay. When I get the sound pop, I also get a graphics delay and pressing F10 shows that PC load jumps between 20..30% and 90..100%. Occasionally I can race for a few secs normally. My PC is very old so that might have got something to do with it, as well. And it has made itself a name already here for acting extremely weird at times. One example: once, I got occasional pauses in songs I played in Winamp. Anyway, why I think the problem is with TS is because I tried playing another game right here. It was Deluxe Ski Jump 3.1 and in my opinion requires much more resources from the PC than TS as it is 3D and the environment I play in is much more detailed. I had no lag there whatsoever. So what I'm thinking is that [possible suggestions]:
1) perhaps my TS folder is too big and the PC doesn't like it
2) perhaps I should totally reinstall the game and see what happens
3) I could also try testing on a newer laptop computer, installing the game there and 'retesting' the network configuration, if I get lag there as well, it should be my connection. but then it wouldn't explain the lag in local game. I don't know.
At the moment it's too late and my nerves are too uptight to get angry at not being able to play TS, so I'm just going to sleep and try a few things tomorrow. Any help is appreciated.
