Hi have only recently started playing TS and I am not very good at it.I do want to race online but maybe the ai players are more friendly.Whilst playing this evening I was asked to "turn off downloads" and I asked how I could do this. Before there was a reply to my question another player suggested that I be kicked from the race since he didn't like Spaniards. My player name may sound Spanish but I'm English. Elsewhere on the forum there was a post about how to attract more players to TS. Well this type of behaviour certainly won't encourage new players and I for one am starting to wonder if I wasted my money subscribing to this game! The ip address of the server was 85.240.60.114 and it was advertised as a rough race. I hadn't realised that the players had to be rough as well as the racing! Any info on how I should turn off downloads would be gratefully received - I don't want to upset anybody else if I go online again.

Hi there and welcome to TS!
First of all, you have to understand that most servers are provided by players, so they make the rules they want. The server you joined was most probably hosted by devic for the portuguese community: they normally play rough races with antislider, about 3 laps for about 20 tracks. They are used to wait for downloads, unless they are playing photoshopped tracks (>1MB per track). If there are many photoshopped tracks in a row, it could take minutes to wait for all players, so they might have decided to kick you.
Another option is that you had track downloads turned off, so you couldn't load tracks and they had your car in the middle of the track at every race. This could be a better reason for a kick (but this would also mean that you misunderstood what they were telling you - to ENABLE track downloads, not the opposite).

So, there are few things you might want to change/check in the game configuration. Open sliders.ini from the main game folder. Check that these settings are set as follows:

Code: Select all

AllowTrackSending 1
AllowTrackReceiving 1
You might also want to join as spectator in case a server is full (for example puna server). So enable SpectatorsAllowed:

Code: Select all

SpectatorsAllowed 1
To avoid track downloading you should try to download many tracks outside the game. You can find some to the tracks database, and many others to the fan sites. Check for links in our link section, and in the link sections of those websites (e.g. ippon-team.com, janne's website, and so on..).

However, I'm sure you didn't waste your money. And you should play online, because the game is so much more fun in there! Naturally, something bad may happen now and then, but don't give up :D

Hi and welcome to TS.

I probably know the server you are talking about and yes those people tend to be little.... bad behaving at times. Not sure, but I think there is no way for player to disable his own track/car downloads and there's no reason for thatkind of option. Server admin can do that pretty easily, if its causing lag during races. Little waiting shouldn't be problem, but it's understandable that very low dl speed might arise little... agression in some people.

Some of the tracks can be downloaded from different web pages in track packets. Though I am not the best person to advice where best packets are.

There are nice and not so nice people in TS. That's how it tends to be in every online game, but don't let first contact affect too much

Not to be making excuses about anyone's behavior, but the reason you were (supposedly) kicked and the "turn off the downloads" remark was because some complained the server got laggier when you entered and they meant for you to disable any p2p or other programs that would consume bandwidth, nothing related to the game itself. The rest was.. regrettable to say the least, hope it doesn't turn you off the game.

Well I don't mean to be a smartass, but even if he did have p2p programs running, they could never have been the cause for the other players' lag.

Thanks for the replies. I now realise that I can turn off track downloads under the "Track" section of the games menu. I hadn't noticed this before! Obviously if I don't have the track I won't be able to race that particular game with downloads turned off. So I will endeavour to download what tracks I can outside of an online game and avoid servers which use tracks I don't have. Perhaps one day I'll have all the necessary tracks and have improved enough not to cause problems for other users (and pigs might fly.) Thanks again for the suggestions.

No, you shouldn't disable tracks downloading. Normally we all download tracks from servers. As nolan pointed out, it was just their bad: they thought you were causing lags (which can't be possible, unless you're downloading the track while they are racing -> it's not your bad anyway).

Seems like my opinion of some of portuguese players created little bad blood beetween them and me... Well I agree that I wrote it in too general scope as I only meant couple drivers, so sorry for that. Names of drivers I meant? Impossible to remember. My own experience of their competing style is negative from cups driven quite long ago, maybe things have changed from back then. Deny my opinion or not, I don't really care.

Also comments about bad behaving people later at my post were in very general way. There has been bw/rough drivers at "fair racing servers" many times in the past. These players are rare sights (especially nowdays) even, if new player happen to face them at his first online games. Again I don't mean portuguese community!

If I may say, it would always be polite to say why someone is going to be kicked out of server. Common situation is when there is so called private cup and someone without permission connects. Admin should inform that its private cup and ask for unwanted player to leave. If he stays, its fair enough to kick him out.
