Turbo Sliders Cups/Tournaments/Seasons/whatever

Post by fasteddie399 » Tue May 10, 2005 12:24 am

I just want to say once again thank you to all who participated in the Indy tournament. Everyone involved made it a great experience!!! Also, I really enjoyed running it, and it has given me SO many more ideas for more "organized" events.......

I'm basically interested to know what types of events Turbo Sliders players are most interested in... I have many ideas, like I said, and here are a few of them:

- 1 vs. 1 Tournament: Qualifying would "seed" players into a tournament "bracket" of 8, 16, 32, etc. players, and players would race one-on-one through the tournament rounds

- Endurance Figure-8 Championship: A LONG (~100 laps) race on a figure-8 track, non ghost of course, pro mode off

- Rally Tournament: A series of races using JazzyClub's rally cars

- TS 2005 Season: Weekly races on tracks made by Ande and using the default cars (random car, decided at race time!), combined into a "season", with weekly standings and such

- 1 Lap Tournament: A series of races of 1 lap each (these Cups seem to be very popular and often draw a lot of players whenever someone serves one... perhaps a nice "break in the action")

- Consistency Championship: Instead of race "winners", players are ranked by how consistently they can run laps. In other words, you may be somewhat of a "slow driver", but if you can run almost the SAME lap time each time, you would rank very high! This would most likely be a ghostrace tournament... (in case you're wondering how in the world consistency can be calculated, every single lap time that each player runs is written to log files, which can easily be imported into a spreadsheet program and have calculations performed on them)

Anyway, these are just a few ideas... I'd LOVE to hear some feedback on them, as well as any other ideas you all may have!!

:D

*some* feedback:

- 1 vs. 1 Tournament: (...)

All in all a nice idea, there might be a problem with servers & time, as a lot of races have to be run. In the past (some 8 months ago, I guess) we had a knockout tournament organized in a slightly different way. There were ~8 players in the final, all players started with 2 'lives' and whenever they finished last in a (ghost)race, they lost a life. After 2 lives/races had been lost, they had to leave the server, so eventually the "last man standing" won the tournament.

To be honest I don't have a lot of feedback on the other tournament setups, but I would surely consider participating in all of them. :)

Same here.

I prefer ghost racing in the more "serious" cups, but that's not such a big deal. However, if the tournaments are driven with non-default cars, I will not be there.

Just wondering... :)

1x1 matchs sounds good as that endurance race!

Eddie, that indy 500 cup was nice, congratulations!

Now in TSB we have 3 cups running:

TSB F1 2005 cup every sunday we race on a F1 track with the TSB-F2 car, there are 2 categories sorted by joining date. 20 players (10 on each category). The lap number is the same of the respective F1 track.

GT CUP - endurance cup for PU-GT players. Every saturday night.

Punaball CUP - 2nd edition for TSB puna cup.

The problem we won't invite foreign players is the ping (european players get 300ms on brazillians servers) but if anyone wants to join they're welcome!

Because I'm yet to discover a non-default car that would have a distinctively different feel to it (driving wise) but still have some logic and fun in its controllability.

The 5 default cars are more or less different from each other, but still logical in their behavior and fun to drive.

Secondly - and I am not a guy who thinks that games are all about eye candy - the ones I've come across with have looked like... cwap. They just don't gel with the rest of the graphics.

There.

i like the Endurance idea. mabye on a very large track to prevent too much lapping so you can have a good idea where you are. mabye that can wait untill the next version of ts so pitstops can come into play and make things more interesting. and you know i like one lap cups!!!

PS i found the Forums, now i can get into more cups
