Problems With Random Users Playing Online

Post by Anthony » Sat Jul 02, 2005 4:38 pm

I've just noticed today that a few people I play online with are having problems on certain servers. I had 2 friends on a server I made, and while one of them was racing with me, the other was not moving, and said that he saw us not moving. The same is true with another friend I just got playing the game today. He says I'm not moving on his screen, and he's not moving on my screen. I know it sounds a little confusing, but is anyone else having the same problem? And is there a way to remedy it? The versions being used are the newest ones: 1.0.5. Thanks. :D

That seems like a firewall problem. Check the troubleshooting document (link in the manual).

If the server does not see the client move, it means that the UDP messages sent by the client do not reach the server. Also, if the client is not seeing anyone else move, it means that the UDP messages the server is sending do not reach the client. If it was only one client who was experiencing this problem, the problem was probably in that guy's machine or ISP. If all connected clients (more than one) had these kind of problems, the problem was probably in your firewall or connection.

He says he turned his Firewall off, as well as Windows Firewall, and still had the same problem... Are there any other suggestions? :?

Was he the only client in the game? If so, it could be that it was your firewall that caused the problem.

No, I've been playing the game for a couple weeks and never had this problem. He was the only other person in THAT particular game, though.

During that time, have you also hosted games as a server where the clients have seen their cars move? Many firewalls are configured so that you can play as a client but hosting a server causes problems.

But if it works for some (as you suggested in the first message), the problem is probably in the client guy's connection. For some reason (firewall or not), UDP messages are not transmitted between the machines.

I had the same problem. I have a wireless modem at home which i had to config so all traffic ts sends and receives is forwarded to my pc. I had to set my NAPT/NAT settings.

U can write me a mail when u are not sure how config the NAT or google some... there are a lot of articels about it.

Greetings
