TS Tournaments Times (Vote your favourite time)

Post by Mike Nike » Tue Jan 04, 2005 10:31 pm

When planing and creating tournaments at servers, which are not always online, especially the experience shows, that it is hard to advertise the location and getting a time for letting as many players participate as possible.

Please vote your favourite time zone, when you "have time" at the weekend, for taking part at TS Cups (which would take from joining the server until Cup End maximal 2 hours...average 1,5 hours maybe).

If you would have some more time, like: whole Friday evening and or whole Saturday and or Sunday evening, just post here...or if you have any other comments.

I remade some of my tournaments ideas/systems local again without including any serversettings. Maybe i upload the systems somwehere...

Examples in "short" form^^:

1. frequently server: 1 season = 1 month + Cup:

After a qualification by statistics of fast laps or races in a frequently online server, best 20 players are taking part at the 2nd weekend of the next month in a tournament (long cup) of best players at this server.
Example: 1 day you drive many good races and/or laps and at monthend you are qualified with rank 18.
Then you take part at 2nd weekend of next month in a cup with 20 players (or actually: max 20, i guess that average only 10-16 would appear).

2. League(s): 1 season = 3 Cups

A) 1 League consists 16 players.
B) A LeagueSystem can be: just a number of leagues (1,2,3,4...)
and a system can be: 1 1st league
1 or 2 2nd leagues
2 or 4 3rd leagues
4 or 8 4th leagues...

How to get in higher league or fall down in lower:
A)
place 1-4 (or 1-5 or 1-6) of 16 players in league are getting in higher league.
Last 4, 5 or 6 are falling in lower...
B) place 1-2 (or 3 or 4) are getting higher...
last 4 (or 6 or 8) are gettin lower...

Points System:
Logically Points are added of 3 Cups to totalpoints...
But, it may be the case, that a player miss 1 or 2 cups...
When he miss 3 cups, he gets 0 points...he didnt even appear...
When he is at a journey (holiday or business), maybe he can ask before making TS pause, if he will idle in a league for 1 season. But he has to do it before he miss a cup.
If only 1/3 Cups are driven maybe, the totalpoints are: Pts of 1 Cup * (1+2*50%) (Example: 90pts + 45 + 45 = 180)
He drove 1 good cup, but is punished that he missed the others...
If only 2/3 Cups were driven: totalpoints are for example: (Pts1+Pts2)*(1+50%/2) = 90+50+(70*50%) = 175 pts
Bad 2nd cup ruined totalpts...(maybe in 1st cup there were low quality drivers and 2nd there were better drivers)
the formulas can be discussed...
And: if only x/MaxRaces in a cup were driven, then depending on the pts of the x cups and the number (x), there will count some extra pts.
Example: 10/20 races (someone came late): 50 pts (instead of 100) -> 75 pts are given
But: 5/20 races: 25 pts -> for the 15 races here are lower than 50% of 5 pts (25/5) are given, maybe...
Example: 1/20 races: 10 pts -> maybe 10+19*5 = 105 pts are too much, but depends on...
There will be a minimal number of drivers (maybe 8) to let start a race.
Maybe only in the last races of a cup, the races may have <8 players.

Example disadvantage: driving 10 races, then skipping cup can decide over getting in a higher league or not getting in a lower one...

3. "Cup" (~ like cupsystem in swimming or running 100m): 1 Cup-Season = 3 Finals

1st Weekend: QuarterFinals (4 groups of 16 players)
2nd Weekend: Halffinal (2 groups of 16 players)
3rd Weekend: Final (1 groups of 16 players)

Finals consists 16 players (or those, who appear ;)) and are driven in a longer Cup.
Best 8 are reaching the next final.

This Cup-Season can be parallel to the League-Season.
And it can also be combined:
In the Cup there can be for example few kinds of systems for placing players in groups.
1. random
2 Including the ranking in the league of last season:
2.1:
quarterfinal groups are:
group 1: league 1
group 2: league 2
group 3: league 3
group 4: league 4

2.2a/b:
group 1: league 1 and 4 or: 1 and 3
group 2: league 2 and 3 or: 2 and 4
group 3: league 1 and 4 or: 1 and 3
group 4: league 2 and 3 or: 2 and 4

2.3a/b:
group 1: league 1,2,3,4 (of each league: rank 1,2,3,4 OR 1,5,9,13)
group 2: league 1,2,3,4 (of each league: rank 5,6,7,8 OR 2,6,8,14)
group 3: league 1,2,3,4 (of each league: rank ...)
group 4: league 1,2,3,4 (of each league: rank ...)

I prefer 2.3b ;)

If you like to comment which tournaments you would like...
or what leaguesystem you prefer or whatever...please comment :)

I voted Saturday early evening (17.00-19.00) but think that your times are too broad. Basically, i would want to play tournaments at late evening (22.00+) inside the week and in the afternoon at weekends.
Stay away from open windows.

Great idea but I think mid week would be more appropiate for me. Sunday evenings are a possibility.

I voted for Friday late evening, but every late evening of the weekend is OK for me. About the tournament system I like the 2nd one, the league, because people would play in a division against other guys with similar level, its a great idea :D

i voted early evening Sunday, but if it's just once a month (did't read the post before votings) then any day except Saturday nights is good.

I don't really mind as I'm in Australia, and as there aren't many local players (are there any others?), I'm flexible about the timing.

Perhaps the poll should be redone to be GMT to allow for this?

@JayTee
Well, some kinds of tournaments can be each week, some take place only once in a month...

@captainpotato
I prefered the voting, refering to your own timezone, because that was/is easier to vote for, i thought.
Though you are right, that, when there are people living in america or australian, that i cannot see it in the vote...
With letting (maybe the same) people vote for the GMT time, they have time, then i would be able to interpretate (oncluding the information of this vote), where the people comes from and what americans prefer compared to europeans...but i think, it would be nearly the same.

So, maybe, i can immediately make a vote for: "Who lives where?".
And this is actually one part, i am going to ask in a mail to circa 100 people. Hopefully i don't forget a question in my kind of "1 time newsletter" :)
