Turbo Sliders needs a Central Webiste (HQ)
I know there is a thread related to this topic, but that is more about feature request.
I felt the need to open this new thead so that we can discuss this issue here.
This week i ve always opened a server for a couple of minutes, and aways 3 or 4 players came in.
The good about it is that the players were always different. When i asked them if they know about the forum (jollygoodgames forum), they said that they are not reigistered and never heard of it.
My point is that there are MANY TS PLAYERS, but scattered. Something must be done so that we have one community.
IN OTHER WORDS WE MUST HAVE A CENTRAL WEBSITE.
I know that DEDE has started this job, and hope that one day will be finilized. The forum from jollygoodgames must be part of this centralized webiste. The foum must be cleaned up from SPAM registered users, in other words users who have nothing to do with TS
What would be the benefits of having a TS Website with rigistered active users?
One Community = new ideas, new clubs, new track makers, new car makers, new competitions, sharing of resources etc etc.
In my opionion this is something that MUST be DONE.
Having a central site example: http://www.turbosliders.com would be easy to advertise it.

I know Dede. And you did a great job till now. In fact you had shown me the website you were doing, and it looked fine for me.dede wrote:Hehe, yup.. I stopped working to the website though. I hope to start working again in the summer: 50% of the website is done.
Have you made any arrangements with jollygoodgames or it was your idea? I mean can jollygoodgames help/support us? Maybe like hosting expenses, domain name expenses or even technical website support.
I think having ONCE COMMON CENTRE would UNITE US ALL TOGETHER.
May be i can give some help myself. But i am not good with coding or asp. I just work with dreamweaver using html.
I agree that some central website is needed, JGG doesn't seem to be doing too much for this game.
Even if we don't get central website, as I have already suggested months ago, people should be informed a lot more about this forum at TurboSliders main page. As well as it's not very good advert to the game that almost half of the links in links section are leading nowhere and yet like half of the working ones haven't been updated in 2-3 years.

First of all it would be excellent if Ande gives us the domain turbosliders.com.JTS wrote:As well as it's not very good advert to the game that almost half of the links in links section are leading nowhere and yet like half of the working ones haven't been updated in 2-3 years.
Secondly i agree 100% with JTS. The forum is not a nice showcase of the game. Out there, are games like TS, some have horrible gameplay, others do not support Internet play and still have a strong community.
I always said that TS is one of the best games.
The central webiste must be a good advert of the game, showing all aspect of the game. If someone enters the site he must say.."emmm intersting!".
Last autumn there were lots of discussions about the central site for TS. Dede was starting to work with the site and asked from different drivers about things and many promised to help and some things were done like gathering data and info and I did some experimentations with different content management systems (they seemed to be promising but needed customizing).
After that the project was a bit like Dede wanted to make everything by himself (build a new content management system) and the project slowed down and is still at stand.
Dede has done great job with the site (those parts I saw) but things could have been done differently and more swiftly.
I hope we will someday see the grand turbosliders.com -site with excellent content and functionality.

Indeed! A highly spammed central site is needed. If one is able to discover the game, he MUST be able to find the website right away.
One thing Ande could do is place the link in the game itself. When closing TS, a screen says "Thank you for playing.... please visit www.turbosliders.com" and even open the site itself when the player first installs the game.

Yeah, I didn't want to use a CMS, I wanted to program everything from the beginning. This is the way I work, I don't like using things done by others. Of course, this is the hardest way to proceed, and infact after a lot of hours invested on it, the website is still at 50% (the whole admin/mod part is missing). I didn't want to create just another TS page, I wanted to create what we really need.Hengari wrote:After that the project was a bit like Dede wanted to make everything by himself (build a new content management system) and the project slowed down and is still at stand.

Some guy helped me with some script, but I always wanted to program everything by myself. I've never realized a website working in a team (I always programmed everything by myself), and I didn't want to experiment that now.
So, why did I stop working to the project lately? Because that time I was investing into programming TS.com is now dedicated to other things (studies, friends, etc). I could stop playing TS for some time in order to finish the project, but now I don't really feel like that!
Anyway, in about 1 month I should be free and available for some programming again.. Maybe in september we'll have some beta version ready.
The point mentioned by Mouse is very interesting. A direct advert in the game.
It is very important that we keep in mind what is the aim of the webiste - in my opinion the main aim must be to get the flock together.
I dont'n know exactly what has been made so far. if dede in brief could explain what was made (50%) and what needs to be done (the other 50%), would be appreciated.
If we do this right.. we can improve the community a lot. When things are organized well they succeed, otherwise they fail. If we don't plan we are planning to fail.
By the way..nice to see you back...mouse.

The website is ready (only small bugs to be fixed). Now I've to work to the admin/mod area. I'm not planning to add new features to the website before the first version is released.Jeffrey wrote:I dont'n know exactly what has been made so far. if dede in brief could explain what was made (50%) and what needs to be done (the other 50%), would be appreciated.
Hehe, I think I won't work on big improvements though, just small scripts (I won't invest much more time in this project.. I already "lost" three months of work on it.. passion is ok but i'm not that crazyJeffrey wrote:Than improve on it.
Anyway, yes, suggestions are welcome. We can put all ideas in a to-do list. After all this is a php-based website. So anyone could program some script and send it to me in order to implement it in the website.
