Keyboard and display

Post by mikko » Fri Jul 06, 2007 7:38 pm

Everyone having played TS on a laptop surely know that a good keyboard and a large screen are prerequisites of a top player. I just changed a keyboard and now I seem to have lost all the speed I ever had. It would be interesting to know, which type of equipments my opponents (all of you) use.

Here are mine:

Keyboard (old): Logitech UltraX Media
Keyboard (new): Logitech Cordless Desktop MX 3000 Laser
Display: 19" CRT, 800x600 resolution

See you in racing,

Mikko

I have a laptop (Dell Inspiron 5100)
I don't use my keyboard to race (too hard with a laptop imo), i use an XBox360 controller.
Screen Resolution: 1024x768

Screen: 19" TFT (1280x1024, zoom 0.9)
Keyboard: The cheapest Logitech keyboard I could buy, works great for me

Changes in hardware can be really weird yes, you'll get used to them though, don't worry! :)

Desktop: 17'' (default TS video settings) - keyboard: ehrm.. I completely destroyed one, now I have a siemens (made in Germany.. so annoying having those stupid characters) but it seems it's hard to destroy.

On laptop I don't really play because of two reasons:
1) I don't want to destroy its keyboard
2) I usually use wireless connection (lags)
(infact when I'm playing with leptop i use WirelessLag as nick :D)

You'll get back your speed soon ;)

BIG mistake. Please say that it is a RF-keyboard and not with Bluetooth.

It may be that technology is better nowadays but couple of years ago I had Microsoft's Wireless Desktop with Bluetooth and the keyboard was horrible. There was noticeable lag between keyboard inputs and I had to use my secondary keyboard to play TS. Logitech UltraX is teh best.

I changed from 19" CRT to 22" TFT and it is still a bit strange when I have to use different zooms and resolutions than before. I changed from 1280x1024 to 1280x960 and from zoom 1.0 to 0.9. The worst thing is that now I have less vertical screen space than before and it's harder to predict the curves. Thus the zoom change.

Yes, it is RF, and no lag, just so different touch. I too found Logitech UltraX a very good keyboard, good touch and silent, that is very important as well.

@Tijny & dede

You are probably right, I should get used to the new touch. But if I won't, I'll just change back to the old one, simple as that. By the way, I wonder how damn fast you guys could be by putting more emphasis on your equipment, like changing to Logitech UltraX and az,.

My equipment are so high tech!

Laptop with seperate screen and keyboard.

Screen: Philips 105S, 15" CRT I guess. (got it for free)
Keyboard: Fujitsu Keyboard. Manufactured -98, I think. (got it for free)

Zoom 1.0, Resolution 800x600, because my laptop can't run it smoothly on 1024x768.. And that's the reason I got seperate screen on a first place, nice black frames when playing on laptop screen. Keyboard is quite nice to use even though it's old. But bigger screen surely would help driving.

Poor student, so poor equipment. Though now I'm naturally working at summer, so maybe I should do some investments.

So true! But accelerating/braking at the same time can really help a lot in some curve. And I always loose a lot in those tracks, since I can't -.-

Actually, no. The way I have figured out this is that there is still a lot room for improvement in this game. If you and dede would change to a 30" display, logitech UltraX and, most importantly from your absurd key combinations to az,. the outcome would be devastating.

I'm not gonna change my key combination, though I learned to drive a bit differently now (only for lapwanking at the moment). Results already came :P
