Turbo Sliders translations

Post by Creator » Fri Nov 12, 2004 10:37 pm

Would you like to translate Turbo Sliders to your language? We welcome your help, but to make sure things are done in good working order please see the following rules first!

1. Let us know before you do anything! (post in this topic!)Someone else might already be working on the translations, in which case all you need to do is to sit back and relax.

2. By sending us the translated text you grant us the right to use and distribute the text any way we like, world wide, free of charge, forever.

3. We will not pay you, but if we build an "official" translated build of TS and distribute it via Jollygood Games website, you will get a full version of the game for free and your name will appear in the credits of the translated version. If you already own a full version (thank you very much!) you will get to designate another person who will receive a full version (as a gift from you!). :D

Questions, comments? Wish to volunteer? Post ahead!

Which texts we have to translate?

Post by Mike Nike » Sat Nov 13, 2004 2:29 am

Edit:

Easy german flag. Quick made in MS Paint, no special design...

I will put my work and Guido's together then.

Sure!

Turbo Sliders is conquering a huge set of fans here in Brazil, and i'll be very glad to translate it to Brazillian Portuguese. I've sent an email to Anti Mannisto (aka "Creator" here???), giving him some feedback a month ago.

I'm also working with friends on a brazillian federation to create some rankings, official championships, etc... I'll contact Anti Mannisto in short to exchange ideas and give/receive some suggestions.

Please let me work to improve the game. I'm looking forward to do the Brazillian Portuguese translation :D :D

Edit: my nick in the game is Meister.

@Guido
You may decide, which you want to translate...
Maybe, we can make it so...you translate the things, you want...circa the half, and i translate the rest.
Then i look over your translated text and look, if it is okay like this.
Maybe my big sister (she's studiing translation in university :-)) have also a look over it :-).
Then i upload the complete translation text (german.lng) and add the link at post number 2 at this thread.
Then you can watch it out and have a 2nd look at it, what i (and maybe my sister) translated, to agree, if it is okay or not.
The lines you (or i) are changing from each other...or ask for to change it, add to this line the string "???".
Then when you/i have a look at the others work, we can easy search for the edited lines, ok?

Things to consider when translating:
Due to Antti Mannisto coded an absolute positioning instead of a relative positioning, you have to cut lot of your translations.

Better Solution: Antti Mannisto is creating a relative positioning.

Problem <language>.png:
If you have black colors in your image, the black color overlaps with the black color of the backgroundimage. A solution may be: making a colored border around each flag.
If you look at the german flag, you see only red and yellow/gold, while selecting your language.

I agree with Mike Nike. Absolute positioning sometimes is painful and you have to pay attention to that.

Pay special attention to key words that happens to be small like: "On", "Off", "Laps", etc... If these words are much larger in your language it can be a problem. For example, in portuguese, off = desligado, so i had to translate it to "não" (means "no") in some places, to fit the frame reserved for the text.

Some bigger phrases that are in more than one line should have approximatelly the same quantity of characters per line in your language as in the original.

In addition, I would like to suggest the same flag sizes in the select language menu.

That's a good idea.
The best would maybe be, if Ande does resize the imagefile to a special size, maybe 60x40.

If he won't do it, we should have a look at the possibilities of flags. There are flags with 2, 3, 4 and more stripes. In the most cases, the stripe sizes are equal. So the flag height and length should be divideable through the number of stripes.

Work Done!

Post by joevicentini » Sun Nov 14, 2004 7:39 am

My translation is done! :D 8) :P  I'm going to check the file to find any mistakes one more time then i would like to send it to you guys (and receive yours as well) so we can help each other to check for errors that are language independent, like overlapping words, case misuse, period signal missing, this kind of stuff.

Now i have to paint the flag. Mike Nike suggested 60x40. I would suggest a format that has the vertical and horizontal pixel counting divisible by 3, because of the flags having 3 stripes in both vertical and horizontal direction. I believe you guys would like to put the 3 stripes with the same size.

This is not a problem to me, since my flag doesn't have stripes. I'm more concerned with the circle i have to draw in the center of my flag, so all i ask is to have a format that has even x even or odd x odd combination for pixel counting, having even x odd or odd x even would make my circle looks like an ellypse.

So i would suggest a 60x42 or 60x36 format.

i'm just waiting an official format to start painting the flag.

You should use about the same size as with the existing flags.
In fact, the width must be between 20 and 100 and the
height must be between 20 and 50, otherwise the flag is not
seen at all.

Please keep in mind that all flags don't have the same proportions, in reality. I would say it would be good to have all flags have the same height, but let the width be free to accomodate the real life proportions.

Flags.com is a good place to get images of all the flags if needed (rather than drawing your own from scratch).

Now, that was a little embarrasing. The previous post was from me.

Lol Creator. :D

Ok then. So I took creator's suggestion and picked up a brazillian flag at flags.com.

So here's the brazillian portuguese translation, and the flag.

:D

Important question

Almost done with the swedish translation.

Are we able to recieve another beta version (like 0.99) for beta-testing of the language. To see if the language is grammatical right.

There would be great if you could release another beta with all the new languages before the final v 1.0.

You can do it yourself, there's no need to create a new beta.

Rename your file to <language name>.lng, create a flag for your language file, called <language name>.png and save both inside the lang directory.

Next time you check the languages you will find yours there. :D

These flags are looking nice :)
But i would give my vote to 1 flag instead of >=1 flag(s).
Because the language is german...
Although this language is spoken in austria and swiss also...
But i think it's comon for swiss and austrian people, the german flag for choosing the german language.
But all in all good idea, but i won't vote for it...but maybe the others...

Germans...

I see you have not been in Austria very often, on the Info boxes etc. there is often the austrian flag instead and also google reveals that it is used more widely:
