X-Bumpz track making competition

Post by xzeal » Fri Jul 18, 2008 1:36 am

Update: 28. July at 13:10 CET

Got fixes for Jan and Swaams tracks. I was expecting some from Janne too, all he had to do was fix the checkpoints. Oh well...

http://www.savefile.com/files/1693609
only includes the fixes so you may want to download the older tracks too

http://www.savefile.com/files/1688940

I have a feeling nobody will bother to vote until I get the pictures up :). Well I might postpone the deadline a bit.

Update: 26. July at 0:49 CET

Thanks for all your lovely entries, now I'm giving 2 extra days for bug fixes :) (I got some to take care of too). If you vote then I don't mind if your votes are influenced by the track being bugged at first, but keep in mind that this competition is for finding the best tracks not most attentive trackmakers :). I already have Chevrons bug fix (made by dede, was on server not in trackpack). So send me the bug fixes by 27.th July 21:00 CET. Oh and rename your track to "[trackname]_fix" or something like that if you do resend.

Once the next deadline passes I'll put up the new trackpack, but you may commence voting already now if you want.

PS: Would be nice if you uploaded your tracks to ts.com tracks section.

Update: 25. July at 21:53 CET (server should be up soon)

You can download the entered tracks from http://www.savefile.com/files/1688940

AnywayZ here is the list (I'll see what I can do about pictures and individual download links when I'm more sober):

ok voting is as follows:

1.Pick The Best track (3 points)
2.Pick the 2 next best ones (2 points each)
3.Pick the 7 next best (1 point for all)

So voting ends August 1.st at 23:00 CET
Voting is public meaning you can vote in this topic and you CANNOT vote for your own tracks (you get minus points for that). You should vote based on your own personal opinion on what makes an X-Bumpz track good.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Well time for a track making competition not hosted by Jarno for a change.
So we are looking for X-bumpz tracks. I'm not mean like my teammate or anything, so anyone can send up to 5 tracks(HOLY SHIT xzeal, you insane or what?). You have about a week to send those tracks my way. Oh and yeah we prefer new tracks, but if you got a great older track that has gotten very little or no attention you can send that too.

Send them to harri.pakosta[at]gmail[dot]com or over MSN(xzeal[at]msn[dot]com)

The deadline would be July 25.th at 21:00 CET. Hopefully we can do a nice long xbumpz marathon on community with those track then. (If not then a day or two later). Voting rules will be something so brilliant and drastically different than Jarnos competition that I haven't even thought of them yet, but I will figure something out in a week. Remember the more tracks you send the better chance you got someone accidentally voting for your track!!!.

The Grand Prize for the top 10 tracks (at least) will be lots of publicity on the community server, since we play quite a lot of xbumpz there around midnight (any European time zone).

... fine I admit it I don't even care who wins and how good the tracks are, I just want new xbumpz tracks.. and so does dede and every other insomniac who plays xbowl on community server until 4am (as you can see by my posting time).

Get to it everyone.

PS: This might be a good chance for some of you more hardcore track makers to create some real works of art?

EDIT: in fact you can send the tracks by uploading them somewhere and leaving a link in this topic if you wish. I don't mind, the deadline is fairly close anyway so it changes very little if the track gets some early publicity.

UPDATE:

I've gotten tracks so far from:

Chevron
Etmil
iBlaze²
Anddru
Janne
Jan
Dede
Swaam
Keppana

Something very important is to check the pat-file generated by the editor, after creating the track. If it has "grass pixels" where it shouldn't, you have to fix them! Leaving them as is will wreck you in case you drive over them.
About special tiles, it's a bit complicated, and I'm not really the one who can explain how does it work.

There are some interesting posts about this tipic inside the "Tracks" section of the forum.
A very good guide about tile creation can be found here: http://sliderpoint.com/guidepoint

Btw, are different versions that base on a single track considered here as one track or many tracks?

Probably many tracks, although I have no idea what you mean by "different versions that base on a single track".

Probably many tracks, although I have no idea what you mean by "different versions that base on a single track".
Example:

Version 1: Clean tarmac square with grass outside.
Version 2: Exactly the same tarmac square with same grass outside but jumps added here and there on the tarmac.
Version 3: This time there's some grass dots added inside the tarmac square.
Etc..

It's quite similar to a racing track with different layouts.

Janne, only one .trk file in the Competetion. In this case, you gotta pick the best of your versions. (If that ain't the rules, I don't think there should be a limit of tracks per player at all).
In my new website you can find my tracks and cars!

Hope you will enjoy!

Maybe you should read the first post a little better :)

I might send a track too, if I find some inspiration AND if I'm not too ashamed by the end result.

Real men never reads the manual, and never take backup. When will you learn? ;D

Anyway, my point is still that each .trk file count as 1 track. Now you just gotta pick the 5 best versions :)

WOOHOO!! :D

My arena is finished. It probably won't be up to the high-standards that you lot set, but I tried, and I've followed the guides and attempted to iron-out any issues.

For me, it works perfectly and I can't see any problems.

No doubt somebody will find one though haha.

It's a fairly big arena. Enough space for a full 20-player game. Because at the moment, most of the arenas get very crowded with 20 players and there's hardly any room to move.

Anyway, I'll e-mail it to you later xzeal.

Actually, there is already some Big Arenas (I've made a few by my self). Anywho, they're NORMALLY kind of boring because when you're only about 2 or 3 left, the track is way too big. But maybe you've made something that works really well? Let's hope so! :D

5 tracks done and sent. Shame that it isn't possible to make more. :D Some of them are quite crap but that doesn't really matter, at least we get more tracks. :P

Anyway when will these tracks be able to use on Community server? Some kind of a marathon with these tracks would be indeed nice to do soon. ;)

Since xsteal keeps on forgetting and forgetting, I'll announce it:
today starting from 22:00 CET we'll play X-BumpZ with new tracks made for this competition. Actually, it will be a "normal mod night", so we'll play Infiltration&other mods also, but the X-BumpZ cups will be based on new tracks only :)

If Community Server doesn't lag, we'll play there, otherwise we'll be at my server, like yesterday.

Oh now I maybe realized what the problem is in my and Swaam's tracks that have ice on them. Is it that no one other but I could see the ice on the sever. If so, how can I fix the problem? :?

EDIT:
Ok bugs fixed and ice is visible now, thanks to Anddru for help. :)

Tracks are sent now to xzeal and the tracks that are fixed now are Jan_XB_BlackAndIce, Jan_XB_CrossFence, Jan_XB_RoundItByJumping and Sw_X-Bumpz_5. Please don't use the first bugged versions of those tracks.
