Groove Lines

Post by Ek Poepol » Fri Sep 26, 2008 11:46 am

Hi I made Groove Lines in photoshop but dont know how to put it in the track. How do I put this image in the track.

How do I make it a tile and if possible how do you make it so that the darker groove line has more grip than the normal road.

To make it a tile, you need to create a pattern file for it.
In order to have more grip on your 'driving line' you probably need to create a new terrain and set the parameters of it accordingly, this has never been done before, but good luck. Can't say it's a bad idea. Another thing is that the racing line, which has 'more grip', should be a bit smoother (for my taste anyway).

Thanks Etmil.

By smoother what do you mean. Like the way it goes around corners or the edges of the line.

The line itself should be smoother, it's a bit rugged at times. (basically, using your words: the way it goes around the corners)

I have thought about making driving lines for a track but they should be done by driving the track with some car so it's authentic to real driving lines.
Of course it's hard to record the driving lines for cars which don't slide (no skid marks). And either way the driving line would be usable for the one car which it was made for and only if it really is optimal driving line.

Nice idea and maybe worth testing.

Tijny made a nice script to extract the driving line out of the output.txt (that can be generated with the debug option activated while watching a recording, for example).

In last (photoshopped) track I created, I added a skidmark but I decided not to add different tarmac behavior on that. That would make overtaking a bit harder (driving out of optimal line would result slower) which is exactly the opposite of what I want. But the skidmark looks very good, anyway :P

Ah, haven't really had the time to follow the new tracks lately. Looks nice.
