FAQ:

How is a race meet scheduled?

21:00GMT: Practice, 5 minutes.

21:10GMT: Qualifying, single car (one car on track at a time, 1 outlap, 2 flying laps, 1 inlap) Fuel is off.

21:25GMT: Pitstall selection. You must park in the same pitstall all race, the order of picking is done by qualifying - the polesitter gets first choice, then it follows down the qualification order

21:30GMT: Race begins. Startfuel may be set freely. Starting grid is placed at least 1 corner before the start finish line so that a double file rolling start can be achieved. Races can last anything from 40 minutes to 1 and a half hours. It may seem like a long time to be racing, but there are breaks in concentration under Safety Car/Caution periods.

Why on ovals does my car go faster on the outside?

The ovals have "banked" turns, this means the tarmac has more speed on the outside of the turns than the inside. This allows side by side racing and searching to try and find the perfect line, which may not always be sticking right to the inside of the track.

Why does the Safety Car come out?

The Safety Car/Pace Car will be deployed in 3 situations:

A large multi car crash
Cars blocking the track
A server problem - such as lag

Who decides when the situation is bad enough to merit a Safety Car?

When the Safety Car comes out is completely up to me as the head race admin and driver of the Safety Car. I watch the race from the fully zoomed out view and assess the situation and whether it is neccesary to deploy the Safety Car/Pace Car.

What should I do when the Safety Car comes out?

When the Safety Car comes out, I will say YEL or something to that extent, drive onto the track and pick up the leader and the "train" of cars. In this time, you may NOT overtake other cars and you may NOT pit. We pace around the circuit until the full "train" of cars have collected behind the Safety Car, at this time I will say PIT, opening pitroad. After the field has passed the pits and chosen whether or not to pit, the field will form up for the restart on the pre-defined "restart grid", which will be where the race was started from. Those who did not pit are first, followed by those who pitted in the order they came off pitroad (there is a stripe at the exit of pitroad to determine this). All cars one or more laps down restart at the back of the field - but the first car a lap down when the Safety Car was deployed is entitled to one lap back even if he pits, and a further lap back if he does not. All lapped players are entitled to one lap back if they do not pit in the Safety Car period. The race then restarts with the Safety Car pulling into the pitlane in a similar fashion to the race start - rolling, double file.

Any other questions please ask away :)

We have to push back the start of this cup 2 weeks due to difficult circumstances in Burnout (who creates tracks) family. SCARTS is a very tight knit community and we don't want to go on without him. See you for the start of the series on November 27th!

BURNOUT STRETCHES FUEL AT DAYTONA

Burnout made the fuel last over a final 28 lap green flag run to win the Turbocharged Series opener at Daytona.

After sitting on the pole once more Lanz lost the lead early to Burnout as the caution came out for a lagstorm on Lap 4. Drillz took the lead on the ensuing Lap 7 restart, losing it to Charter who then in turn lost it to Lanz. Another lagstorm on Lap 15 brought out the second caution of the day, with Burnout quickly taking the lead from Simms (who did not pit) on the lap 20 restart. A multi car crash off Turn 4 on Lap 25 brought out the third caution, and then a large restart crash on Lap 28 brought out the fourth caution and gave the lead to Lanz.

Kart Rossi did not pit to take the lead on Lap 31, Popowitch passed him for a short while to take the lead on Laps 35 and 36 before Lanz passed him and lead until green flag pitstops at Lap 57-65. Lanz retained the lead after these pitstops but a Lap 76 caution for a crash from Drillz meant that he had to stay out on the Lap 80 restart in order to claim the bonus point for leading at halfway. Delux inherited the lead after Lanz pitted on the first lap of the green flag run, but Burnout once again took over the top spot on Lap 94. He kept it until Drillz's #21 Ford suffered connection issues, stopping on the track and causing the 6th and then 7th cautions of the night, Charter stealing the lead by a half a nose when the caution came out.

Burnout however had a better pitstop than Charter so only lost one lap of leading, leading until Lap 129 when a crash with Aniro while lapping him meant that Burnout lost the lead to Domotec for 3 laps. The 8th caution was called for this incident, and a severe lagstorm while under caution on lap 131 meant that the race had to be red flagged for 5 minutes. The race got underway, and Delux took the lead with a fast pitstop, but there were questions as to whether he got all the fuel he wanted in the car, as a sacrifice for getting off pitlane so fast. Delux took a commanding lead on the Lap 133 restart and all cars began to save fuel for the finish, Burnout shadowing Delux as they came to the final ten laps.

Lanz and Charter duelled for 3rd place for many laps before Lanz finally got past him, but with just four laps to go, Delux saw that he hadn't made the fuel last and had to pit on Lap 156 for a small amount of fuel. Simms also had to pit for fuel. Burnout now had a large lead over 2nd place Lanz and could coast to the finish, managing the fuel consumption, running out just as the checkered flag waved.

you forgot to mention that the stupid caution few laps before halfway cost me 1lap, wich was really not easy to get back! took me ages to get in the lead lap! :? should of thrown away that one, i had a good chance to get the other bonus and maybe the possibility to win it!
once i was on the lead lap again i was chasing my way thru to the leaders! i overtook burnout for 2nd but then i kissed the wall and victory was gone! that mistake lead to a very good fight with charter till the end! awesome and fair driving! good racing!

Lanz retained the lead after these pitstops but a Lap 76 caution for a crash from Drillz meant that he had to stay out on the Lap 80 restart in order to claim the bonus point for leading at halfway. Delux inherited the lead after Lanz pitted on the first lap of the green flag run
:P

I think the YEL was needed, the crash was a disconnection from Drillz and his car was on the track, could of being hit by the leaders..

LANZ WINS MEXICO DUEL

Lanz outdueled Dede to win the second race of the Turbocharged Series at the Autódromo Hermanos Rodríguez.

The controversy began before the race had even got underway, with problems with getting the race cars to Mexico in order to run them in the race. Some drivers had to borrow cars from other teams, painting on their own number themselves! That wasn't it however, as many drivers complained about the safety of the track, the large haybales on the inside of the turns being a large concern to the drivers.

Dede qualified his #5 Quaker State Chevy on the pole position, with Delux earning a suprising front row start alongside him in his #18 Combos Toyota. A chaotic start to the race meant a large crash in one of the controversial haybales in turn 1 of the first lap, but Dede managed to get away from the pole to lead the first lap. It wasn't long before Delux was making a challenge however, forcing his way to the lead at the start of the third lap. Dede attempted to make a challenge to take it back out of the turn 6 hairpin on the third lap, but they both careered off the track and into those pesky haybales to cause the first Caution of the race.

Lanz, driving the #46 AAMCO Chevy inherited the lead after this crash, and kept it on the Lap 6 restart, where Dede made a mistake and lost even more positions to the leader. A lap 12 caution due to Charter's #29 Budweiser Chevy being stopped in Turn 1 allowed Dede to retake the lead, however, he did so by not pitting when the rest of the field took on fresh rubber.

Delux quickly took the lead on the Lap 15 restart, and kept it until on Lap 17 Lanz tried to make a pass for the lead on the outside of Turn 4, and mayhem ensued. Lanz and Delux were both thrown off the track, and while rejoining got hit by Slick who couldn't slow his #21 Motorcraft Ford down in time. Lanz came out of the carnage with the lead however - and surprisingly the track was clear, and no caution was called.

Lanz kept the lead until Lap 30, when a cycle of green flag pitstops allowed Delux to lead 3 laps. Once Delux had pitted Lanz regained the lead and a Lap 42 caution for Charter's once again stopped car, this time in turn 8, bunched the field back up.

Lanz once again stayed out to claim the bonus points for leading at halfway, and once again he pitted on Lap 46 for new tyres and fuel as soon as he had taken them. At a road course however, this was likely to be less costly than at Daytona - he wasn't likely to lose a lap by doing it. Delux lead Lap 47, but then on Lap 48 got massively sideways on the grass off of turn 3, and Dede managed to sneak by. Charter retired his car from the race on Lap 51, damage from multiple crashes forcing him to stop running.

On lap 60, lapped cars of Popo Simms and Slick had a large crash into turn 1 right in front of leader Dede. Dede managed to get through the crash unscathed, and also managed to survive an ensuing round of yellow flag pitstops with the lead. Simms however caused contact on pitroad when he parked his #24 DuPont Chevy halfway into Slick's pitstall, and he was subsequently held in pitlane for one lap on the lap 63 restart.

Dede pulled out a reasonable lead, but both would have to stop for tyres again before the end of the race. Lanz kept chipping away at his advantage, pitting for tyres with 15 laps to go, which Dede immediately reacted to, however he had a very messy pitlane entry and lost time to Lanz. They started an epic battle for the lead with 11 laps to go. Lanz passed Dede on Lap 80, only to make a mistake in the final chicane and be repassed. They raced bumper to bumper all the way through Laps 81 and 82 and then on Lap 83, exiting the turn 6 hairpin their cars locked together, hit the haybales, and then they both immediately turned to the road, continuing their battle!

Lanz finally pulled the deciding pass into the final chicane at the end of Lap 83, and Dede kept on his bumper for another couple of laps before Lanz pulled a gap to cross the line first!

The race was a success, but the track organisers are already working on removing the haybales before next years Rising Star Series race!

LANZ WINS AGAIN IN CALIFORNIA

Lanz won another closely fought duel over the final laps of a long final green flag run, this time on the 2 mile oval Auto Club Speedway in California, his fight being with Lexx.

Practice revealed a surprisingly fast competitor in Mjay, who went fastest and got himself the advantage of being last to qualify in his #33 Cheerios Chevrolet, however it did not go by without controversy as he blocked Lexx's fast lap, angering the driver of the #17 Crown Royal Ford.

Single car qualifying produced an interesting and exciting session, as Simms paced the early runners in his #24 Dupont Chevrolet with his lap of 12.532. Delux went faster by 0.098 of a second with his #18 Combos Toyota, then Burnout immediately after put in a lap of 12.173 to gain the provisional pole for his #9 Stanley Tools Ford. Lexx then had a poor qualifying, using far too much of the flat apron in the turns as opposed to the banking further to the outside, but then it was the turn of "polemeister" Lanz to qualify his #46 Cash America Super Pawn Chevrolet, and he set a stunning 12.068 lap which Mjay could not better to take his second pole position of the mini-series. This meant he has started on the front row for all of the races so far.

He took the lead on the start of the race until an early caution at lap 10 set the tone for a race of 2 halves, the first half being caution/crash filled, the second half a closely fought battle for the lead, relatively uninterrupted by visits to the track from the pace car. Fsv, suffering issues with his #16 3M Ford caused the first caution, which gave Delux the chance to stay out at the pitstops and take the lead, which he kept until the second caution at lap 18, where Mjay pushed Lexx into the wall off Turn 2, causing more tension between the pair after their incident in practice.

The ensuing caution allowed Burnout to stay out while those in front of him pitted, and he took the lead until Lexx took it off him on lap 25. A few laps later, Mjay made an illegal pass for the lead, using the grass on the inside of the apron to allow his #33 Cheerios Chevrolet to turn better in the corner which had being stated as illegal before the race, but Lexx quickly regained it and the laps Mjay lead were taken away after the race.

Mjay then continued his bad start when he was involved in the third caution on lap 31, when he crashed with Burnout hard in turn 2. Aniro did not pit his #27 Menards Chevrolet under the caution to lead laps 33 and 34 behind the pace car, but Lanz quickly passed him on the restart and pulled away until lap 39, where Aniro crashed heavily into the backstretch wall, blocking the track and causing the fourth caution within 40 laps.

Simms did not pit his #24 Dupont Chevrolet to take the lead for the restart, he held on for a few laps but was soon crashed out of the lead by Mjay, continuing his run of poor form. Lanz inherited the lead and kept it when Aniro was involved in another caution on lap 43, this time for a crash with Burnout which seemed like a racing incident but left Burnout backwards on the track, necessitation a deployment of the pace car in order to slow the pack down and avoid a large crash. Lexx this time chose not to pit under the caution and took the lead for the restart on lap 46, however Lanz soon claimed it back on lap 48 when Lexx crashed on the backstretch. The race went caution free until lap 67, when Aniro was involved in the third caution in a row for a spin off Turn 4, resulting in him being sideways blocking the track. All the cars came down to pitroad when the pits were opened, as their tyres had worn out over the slightly longer green flag run, and Delux's #18 Combos Pitcrew did a great job, delivering a fast pitstop to put him in the lead.

Delux immediately lost the lead when Lanz made a strong restart from second place on lap 69, however Lanz made a mistake on lap 73 in Turns 1 and 2 and Delux took the lead back. This set up a hard fought battle between Burnout and Delux to lead the race, Burnout just managing to lead over the line at lap 76, as the pair swapped the lead all the way up to lap 90, where the seventh caution in the first half of the race was called for a large crash between Domotec and Aniro's car, once again involved in a caution, who he was lapping. This caution was timely for Delux as he had just pitted for fuel and tyres under the green flag, meaning he did not have to pit when pitroad was opened and retook the lead of the race from Burnout, continuing their swapping of the lead. Burnout took the lead back once more on lap 93 when Delux made a mistake, however Lanz made an epic 3 wide move on the outside to once again take the lead in his #46 Cash America Super Pawn Chevrolet on lap 102, but too late to claim the points bonus for leading halfway, which went to Burnout.

Lexx began to suffer from connection problems at this stage of the race, resulting in two more periods behind the pace car on laps 103-105 and 108-110 as his car blocked the track. Burnout managed to take the lead on the first of these cautions with a faster pitstop, and the chaotic restart that ensued resulted in Mjay taking the lead, followed by Lanz reclaiming it, crashing Mjay into the frontstretch wall, perhaps on purpose as payback for Mjay crashing him earlier in the race. Lanz did not make the same mistake again, going fast onto pitroad under the caution and working hard to keep the lead against Delux on the restart. The first half of the race, filled with cautions, was over, with 9 cautions in the first 110 laps and only 1 in the last 90.

Lanz crashed at the end of lap 113, resulting in a crazy 4 abreast situation as Delux, Burnout and Fastman behind reacted to the crash, and Fastman lead in his #88 National Guard Chevrolet for the first time. He kept the lead for 3 laps, hitting the wall in exactly the same place as Lanz, resulting in Delux taking the lead. Burnout lead lap 124, when he used the lapped car of Aniro to take the lead on the outside of Delux, and Lanz made it 3 wide one lap later to take the lead on lap 125. His lead was short lived however, as Lexx continued the epic battle, taking the lead for lap 128 with a 4 wide move. Delux reclaimed the lead on the next lap, as the battle was unfortunately broken up when Aniro caused a crash while being lapped again, resulting in the leaders going back to single file racing. Delux lead through a cycle of green flag pitstops up to lap 142, where he suffered understeer/push off Turn 2 and hit the backstretch wall, allowing Burnout, who had being following closley for several laps, to inherit the lead. Lanz had pitted extra early for new tyres, and he retook the lead from Burnout with a strong move, and pulled away until a caution on Lap 160 for two separate incidents, Mjay divebombing cars that were lapping him, and Burnout subsequently being distracted and hitting the backstretch wall hard.

Lexx took his #17 Crown Royal Ford to an incredible restart on lap 161, going 3 wide on the apron and claiming the lead. This set up an epic battle between Lexx and Lanz for the win, that would last almost the duration of the last 40 laps. Lexx made a small mistake on lap 164 allowing Delux to pass for the lead, and Lanz to pass him into 2nd. However, on lap 170, Delux crashed, blocking Lanz who he had to let past, resulting in Lexx going from 3rd to 1st in a few seconds. Delux then fell off of Lanz and Delux's pace, as Burnout pitted for new tyres to try and make up ground on Lanz, Delux and Lexx, who were not going to pit again before the end of the race. Burnout managed to make his way up to third, past Delux by the end of the race, but the real battle was up front. Lexx made a small mistake on lap 173, allowing Lanz to take the lead until lap 182, where Lexx had managed to catch and catch Lanz slowly but surely, and he retook the lead with a hard outbraking manoeuvre into Turn 1. He kept the lead for 2 laps, until he then made a mistake out of Turn 2, hitting the backstretch wall, blocking Lanz, meaning he let him past to obey the gentleman rules. Lexx continued to chase Lanz closely for the next ten laps, but on lap 195, while less then a carlength behind Lanz, he made a uncharacteristic mistake, hitting the wall once again off Turn 2, trying too hard to chase him.

This allowed Lanz to hold on and win his second race in a row, from the pole after leading nearly 50% of the laps, claiming the bonus point for leading the most laps. Lexx finished just over a second behind Lanz after their epic battle over the last laps, and Burnout completed the podium after his pitstop strategy worked to a degree, finishing 5 seconds off the pace. Fsv, Mjay, Fastman and Baker all retired from the race.

BURNOUT TAKES THE WIN AT TSUKUBA

Burnout took his second win of the year in the Japanese circuit of Tsukuba, after another epic battle for the win took place, this time involving Burnout and Lanz.

The purpose of the Turbocharged Series is to test new tracks, cars, rules and methods of running races in preparation for the next full season of SCARTS racing, in this case the 2012 Full Throttle Cup/Rising Star seasons, and that is exactly what is being done with the test method of qualifying. For the oval races so far (Daytona and Auto Club), the old method of single car (one car goes at a time for 2 laps), ghost off qualifying has being used. This is used to avoid distractions from other cars, and to allow an exciting session where the fastest in practice go last, so the pressure is really on for the fight for pole position! However, at the road course races so far (Mexico City and now Tsukuba), a method new to SCARTS has been used, ghost is turned on, and 4-6 laps (depending on track lengths) are given to drivers in order to set their best time. The advantages of this method are more practice time for drivers, more representative laps and a more efficient and quicker qualifying session. The problem of drivers being distracted is not at large, as laps are longer at road courses.

Burnout claimed his first pole position of the series in his #9 Stanley Ford, after he started second at the same track in the 2011 Rising Star Series race, a race which he went on to win. Dede put his #20 Italian Toyota on the front row with him, an incredible result after no practice time at the track. Delux continued his good qualifying at road courses, putting his #18 M&M's Toyota in third position to start the race. Lanz had his worst qualifying of the series so far, qualifying his #46 Cash America Super Pawn Chevrolet fourth.

The start was chaotic, Delux had problems coming to the green flag and lost a few positions, Dede got punted wide at Turn 1 by a chain reaction of everyone braking too late for the corner, and then a large five car incident occured in Turn 2, involving Charters #29 Budweiser Chevrolet, Jeremy's #1 Target Chevrolet, Popowitch's #42 Target Chevrolet, Lexx's #17 Crown Royal Ford and Delux's #18 M&M's Toyota all off the racetrack. Simms passed all these cars, but subsequently made a mistake and crashed his #24 Pepsi Max Chevrolet hard in Turn 3.

Meanwhile at the front, Burnout had taken the lead from the pole position, and a breakaway pack was soon forming, of Burnout, Lanz and Domotec. Lanz and Burnout battled through the early laps, Lanz taking the lead on Lap 4 with an excellent crossover pass in turn 2, and immediately began to pull a gap. However, on Lap 10, Lanz went wide out of the final corner, allowing Burnout to catch and pass for the lead. However, Lanz stuck close and managed to pass Burnout once more in Turn 5 on the very next lap. They continued to battle for the next few laps, and on Lap 13 the first pitstops began. Burnout came in first, and Lanz immediately reacted the next lap. They came out right near to Lexx and Popo, who were having a hard battle for what was now 2nd place. However, they soon pitted, and the order was restored.

On lap 17, race control started to watch Jeremy closely, after a large crash on the front straight which nearly required the first YEL of the race. However, the race stayed green for some more laps, and during this time Jeremy was given repeated warnings to let lapping cars past, but ignored them. The pace car was brought out for a large 3 car crash on the frontstraight on lap 25, when Simms and Charter were battling hard, both went wide off the final corner, and Popo, who couldn't slow down in time or avoid the crash, hit them, resulting in Simms careering his #24 Pepsi Max Chevrolet into the inside wall. This gave race control a chance to black flag Jeremy from the race.

Dede was in the pits when the caution came out, and because the field is frozen when the caution comes out, he was allowed to make a normal pitstop for full tyres and as much fuel as he wanted, and then pass the pace car and take up position at the back of the line. However, when all the cars pitted, he did not need to, and inherited the lead with his #20 Italian Toyota. He lead the lap 27 restart, however he made a mistake that several others were making at the end of the lap, running wide off the final corner, allowed Burnout to take the lead.

Burnout kept this lead until a second caution just before the bonus for leading the halfway lap was to be awarded, this time for problems from race control. Shyguy, who drives the pace car, was having issues seeing the race track and all the computers at race control had to be restarted. A short red flag was called on Lap 36, and the race resumed under caution with the pits open. During the period of pacing, Lexx suffered issues with his windscreen, claiming he was seeing triple, and had to retire from the race. Dede showed his SCARTS inexperience when Burnout tricked him, making a dummy that he wasn't pitting, and swerving into the pits at the last moment. Dede however, had missed the pitlane, which meant he took the lead once more under the caution, but this time he was on old tyres with much less fuel than everyone else.

Dede made another great restart on lap 37, alongside Simms, who also stayed out in an attempt to take the halfway points bonus on lap 38. Dede held on to take it, and an exciting battle happened on lap 40. The lap before, Burnout had got on the inside of Dede into the final corner, and had the inside for the first turn, taking the lead for a brief moment before running wide on the exit, allowing both Dede and Lanz to pass. However, Lanz made a suprise move on Dede into Turn 2, and took the lead!

Green flag pitstops began on lap 45, when Dede who had less fuel than the other leaders pitted. An interesting situation with Burnout and Lanz arose on this lap, Burnout hit Lanz off the racetrack, and obeying the gentlemans rules, waited for him. However, Lanz took a lot of time getting back up to speed after the crash, and the pair both lost a lot of time.

On Lap 49, Burnout came into the pits, and on lap 50, Lanz pitted, giving the lead to Delux for one lap before he pitted. Popowitch however, tried to make one more lap, which cost him dearly as he ran out of fuel off of Turn 5 and had to crawl all the way back to the pits.

For the next 15 laps, Burnout followed Lanz, staying within a second almost the whole time. On lap 61, Lanz made a mistake, allowing Burnout to close more. The fuel was very close for the leaders on whether they could make it all the way to end from the lap 49-51 pitstops, however Dede, who had to pit on lap 45 last time could not make it to the end, pitted on lap 64 for the final time. Meanwhile Burnout was edging closer and closer to Lanz at the front, and on lap 67 pulled the pass for the lead with a suprise dive up the inside in Turn 5. The very same lap, Lanz reacted by immediately pulled to the pits, rather than risk running out of fuel. He came out quite a large way in front of Dede in 3rd place, mainly because he only took 2 tyres (the SCARTS term for taking tyres only to around half, as in SCARTS, tyre refill is twice as long as fuel refill to promote strategies like this).

The next lap, lap 69, Burnout reacted and pitted, rather than risk being on old tyres in case of a late race caution, losing out to Lanz on old tyres, or running out of fuel. He also only took 2 tyres, and came out with a reasonable lead over Lanz, with Dede in third, closing on the two with his full tyres from the pitstop (although they had worn since lap 64), but not fast enough to overtake without a late race caution.

It looked like this caution might come for a brief second, when on Lap 70 Popowitch, coming back after his fuel mistake, pushed Charter wide off Turn 1, however Charter managed to keep his car moving and the pace car was not required. Popowitch did recieve a warning for his actions however, something that wouldn't of happened if he had waited for Charter. Since he did make a large amount of time over the final 5 laps however, a penalty may of being harsh, but he must make sure not to do something similar in the upcoming races!

Meanwhile, while the battle up front settled down, Delux in his #18 M&M's Toyota and Domotec in his #99 Aflac Ford were having an excellent battle for 4th place, both of them having enough fuel to make it to the end after their Lap 50-51 pitstops. Simms and Popo, who had both made more recent pitstops, rather clumsily unlapped themselves from them, an incident which race control investigated, but deemed not large enough to penalise.

Back up front, Lanz had caught Burnout to back within a second, however the lapped car of Charter in his #29 Budweiser Chevrolet gave way to Burnout on the inside of Turn 1, and when Lanz tried to follow, he hit him, a racing incident but one that cost Lanz any real chance at pressuring Burnout further over the final two laps for the win. So Burnout drove clean and steady to take his second win of the Turbocharged Series, from the 2.5 Mile Oval at Daytona, to the 1.3 Mile Road course at Tsukuba! This was the second time he won at the track.

Meanwhile, Domotec proved that Lanz and Burnout were both correct to pit again for new tyres over lap 68-69, when he ran out of fuel on the final lap, effectively ending his battle with Delux, although Delux had already pulled a gap anyway. Still a great top 5 finish for him, on the lead lap. Although Burnout had claimed the win, Lanz had lead the most laps, meaning the championship is still very close between the pair of them (when drops are included). Dede also lead the halfway bonus point, in his attempt to claim the road course cup.

Hi SCARTS racers! It's Burnout. Happy New Year!

Sunday (January 15th) is Race #6 of the Turbocharged Series season at Brands Hatch Circuit - one of your road course choices for the season. This will be our second race of 2012 - as we ran Las Vegas a week ago Wednesday.

Shyguy will be administrating and promises minimal cautions so we can develop our pit strategy! The track features some rumble kerbs, slight turn banking, and track handling much like that of Tsukuba. That setup is proving to be very useful in designing handling for our other courses so this race is one NOT to miss! See you Sunday after F1!

BURNOUT WINS AGAIN AT LAS VEGAS

Burnout took his second win in a row and his third of the Turbocharged series after an exciting and action packed night race at Las Vegas Motor Speedway, in Memory of Dan Wheldon.

Single Car qualifying was an exciting event, with Charter setting a fast 10.129 early in his #29 Budweiser Chevrolet. Delux beat him to take provisional pole in his #18 Combos Toyota with a 10.027, and Lanz could only manage 0.003 seconds more than his time with his #46 AAMCO Chevrolet, with a 10.030. Burnout, the last runner of the session, pulled out a fantastic lap of 9.963 to put his #9 Dewalt Ford on the pole position.

The start went smoothly, with Delux taking the lead from 2nd position, until the end of the first lap, where the field stacked up, resulting in Delux hitting the outside wall and Burnout spinning through the grass trying to avoid him. When Burnout came back onto the track, he hit Charter side on, and holding up Domotec and Lanz. The field continued however, until Lap 3, when the caution came out as Flyguy's #11 FedEx Toyota was stopped in Turn 3 after an attempt to make his first lap (he had connection issues before the start of the race).

Burnout and Domotec took this early opportunity to fill their cars up with fuel and put 4 new tyres on, and the race restarted again on Lap 7. Charter took the lead on the restart after Delux got loose/oversteered through Turns 1/2, and Charter kept this lead until Lap 12, when Lanz took the lead with a bold move on the outside. Burnout was making his way back up through the field after his early poor start from the pole position, and was up to 2nd by Lap 26.

On Lap 43, Lanz made a mistake, allowing Burnout to pass him for the lead. Lanz immediately pitted in reaction, and Burnout pitted 2 laps later, handing the lead to Charter. Charter then pitted on Lap 50, giving back the lead to Burnout until Lap 56, when he crashed into the wall of Turn 4, giving Lanz back the lead and triggering the second deployment of the Safety Car.

All the cars on the lead lap came in for tyres under the caution, and Lanz retained his lead there, and also on the Lap 60 restart, where he powered to the lead first from the outside, then making a crossover on Charter to the inside. He kept this lead until Lap 68, when Burnout made a great pass on the inside of turns 3 and 4 to take the lead once more.

Burnout held on to this lead until Lap 90, when he made a pistop, perhaps because of the amount of lapped traffic around him decreasing his pace. This allowed Lanz to claim the Halfway Bonus point, very useful for the championship, at Lap 104 but at the expense of giving Burnout lots of time on new tyres, and went Lanz finally did pit on Lap 119, he had fallen down to the third position.

A few laps later on Lap 123, the Safety Car was deployed again, this time for a crash between Delux and Domotec coming off of Turn 4. In the subsequent pitstops Burnout made a poor entry to the pits allowing Lanz to lead Lap 124, but he took only half tyres and picked up the lead again for the restart. Charter however took the lead with a strong 3 wide move on the restart. which put Lanz in a bad position and he lost ground. A great battle for the lead ensued between Charter #29, Delux #18, Burnout #9 and Domotec #99, but the battle allowed Lanz to catch back up, and he subsequently swept past them and lead for the whole of the next green flag run, with the exception of Lap 165, which Delux lead as Lanz had pitted.

The next caution was at Lap 174, as Kikiriki crashed on the backstretch, blocking the track, and necessitating another period behind the Safety Car. Charter made an exciting gamble when the cars came in to make pitstops, when he stayed out and took the lead. In the closing stages of the race, it looked like he might be able to pull of the win when he took the lead on the Lap 179 restart. The restart was controversial however, as the outside row got a large jump on the inside row, upsetting Lanz. This was later deemed fair by the SCARTS officials - you have a duty to stay behind the person in front of you, and the person in front of you has a duty to stay side by side with the other row. Charter held off the chasing pack for a few laps before Delux forced his way by to take the lead on Lap 181. Delux kept the lead for a couple of laps before a large crash when Lanz attempted to pass him (he battled his way back through the field) resulted in Burnout sneaking by to take the lead on Lap 185.

The crash bought out the Safety Car for the final time of the day, and in the ensuing pitstops Charter had to pit because he had old tyres after not taking the opportunity the previous caution. Lanz and Delux also came down pitroad, while Burnout and Domotec stayed out to take the front row for the final restart. This split in strategies provided a great battle for the second position over the final laps, but as they battled 3 and almost 4 wide for the position, Burnout was pulling away, before eventually taking a commanding lead which he could control to win at Las Vegas! By the time Lanz had broken free of the battling pack, he was too far behind Burnout and had to settle for second place. Charter finished 3rd, an excellent result from him, and less than half a second behind was Delux with a great 4th. Domotec was the last to finish on the lead lap 7.311 seconds behind, and Kikiriki was 6 laps down by the end of the race in 6th.
