Playtrix Servers

Post by fasteddie399 » Fri Mar 31, 2006 12:39 pm

Hey, who is an admin on the Playtrix servers?

I was wondering if an admin could change the AutoRegTime to something larger, like maybe 2 minutes or more. After playing on the servers a bit, I wanted to Import all of the records, but the AutoRegTime is way too short to download all of them. The same goes for Exporting my records (not like I've broken any, but it's the principle I'm referring to) :)

OR, Ande.... hehe... Maybe you can change the way records are imported and exported to make the process go MUCH quicker. Perhaps having it function in such a way that when Import Records is selected by a client, the server creates a compressed file of all records data, then sends that one file to the client, then the client extracts and processes the data. I think that would eliminate a LOT of transfer time. Also, to download a zipped file of records for hundreds of tracks can take literally 5 seconds if done over the web, but in-game it can take up to five minutes or more.

A nice by-product of this, I feel, would be that players would become more inclined to transfer records to and from servers, since it would take only a fraction of the time. I had always wondered, even for track and car downloading, why the throughput is so low.

Just some more thoughts from the crazy mind of fasteddie399... :P

I dont think that is good idea. For personally i think that there should denied that exporting because it is harder to make good time in race and that is why those local wanking laps would never be broked. I think those should only shown how fast you have been driving on races online, not how fast laps you have made in local.
Spinnering on limits...

Maybe someone can explain this to me, because I do not understand...

Why would any of you want to keep your track records to yourself?

I know that some players who, for example, break the "official" lap record for a certain track, they don't want to upload their record to the master records server... Then, if someone does that by accident, they get upset.

WHY?

if I broke the AntiSlider record at Arena, i would be uploading that record SO fast... WHY do some of you prefer to keep that to yourself?! I just don't get it...

I guess the reason is that we are not intereseted in records. It's more important that the next cup starts in half a minute and not in 2 minutes.

 That part I DO understand... which is why I made that "compressed file" suggestion as an alternative to waiting forever while transfering records. :P

@fasteddie
maybe it was me and B4 you listened to when we spoke about Arena Antislider rec. The story was: my "Just Testing" record was a co production by me and dede...done for test purposes. Dede accidently uploaded that "cheat"-record - we both did not want to upload it, since it was kind of cheated. Not sure if you missed that phase in TS..but have a look at EasySlider Arena record. Do you think B4...or anyone would get such a fast time without "cheating"? ;)

Whoa....

Well, if someone (other than Ande himself) is able to "produce" records, even for testing purposes, i.e. "cheat", I think it would be time for Ande to change the program code to eliminate this ability.

And, actually I wasn't referring to the recent conversation regarding B4's record... I was referring to something from months ago (around mid-'05).

Anyway, the whole idea of making "fake" lap records should be viewed as disgusting by the entire TS community... regardless of who is doing the "faking".

Eddie, correct me if I'm wrong, but I got the picture that you kinda missed Jarno's point... What he meant was that some people dont want exported records to PTX full version servers (racing & fun) - including me.

Anyone can break the lap records on above mentioned PTX servers if they drive enough laps in local mode. It's a whole different thing to break those records online, when you have just 3 laps (1st one doesn't really count) for record attempt. If you dont succeed in it, you might have to wait for eternity for another chance.

At least I prefer the current setup because it brings extra challenge and I think it's more honest way of making lap records, because every corner doesn't have to be absolutely perfect. I don't find it thrilling to drive 200 laps on the same track in order to "force" my luck through optimal driving lines and missing obstacles by one pixel.

I don't mean to offend those who still have the determination and patience -which I lack- to wank the standard tracks, it just isn't my cup of tea.

Speaking of the Playtrix servers, what happened to them? They've been gone for a couple of days now...
If anyone knows something about the disappearance of the PTX servers, I'd like to hear more about it. :?

I visited the playtrix irc-channel and they have a firewall problem. It's harddisk is broken and so all the services are also down. Maybe all will be fixed by the end of the week.
