TS Track Editor is sleeping

Post by -wolf- » Sun Jan 28, 2007 3:22 pm

Okay, so, look around TS. People hardly use TS editor anymore and the great track makers like Jeff and Jazzy are working hard photoshoping and coding around with these tracks converting them to tiles etc.
1. As long as new tiles are being made, great ones like Jazzys and whatever, the should be added to default tiles in 1.0.9. That'll be a lot better, well i do know how to do it myself but i didn't notice what mouse noticed - it wont work as long as nobody else did the same thing. The only way for it to work is to release a new version containing this stuff like i did and so people download it all over the world to have this. Also, TS updates should be made when a lot of new tiles are made again.
2. Duh! More tracks should be added from the best trackmakers. And also a program so you could easier make this photoshop-generated tracks. Like some sort of TS photoshop, where included all functions to create a PS-generated tracks.
3. Same for tiles, people all want to make them and they need to have an easier way to do it.

I know that was probably the most idiotic passage you ever heard but thats just me.

It seems you and I have a different opinion about who the "great" trackmakers are. :D
Anyway, including certain tiles in a new TS version would break downward compatibility, and I know that's something Ande tries to avoid.

I almost had a heart attack while reading this comment of yours.

"I know that was probably the most idiotic passage you ever heard but thats just me."

You got it so right there. The only sentence that made sense to me.

Best tracks have and will still come from using the Editor and maybe some extra tiles. The Editor provides good curves and turn-combinations to create a good, drivable track for default cars.

I don't say that those photoshopped tracks aren't good but for racing with default cars they just aren't fun (maybe some).

2: making photoshopped tracks is easy and you don't need any magic to do those. Just some skillz and eye to create a great track. Create the track profile and make it as a tile. Why would you add new tracks to TS package to increase it in size when you can just download the tracks when you have the full version. Like it is done in other PC games.

3: As for tiles, just the image and some pattern. Easy as that.

Hmm, maybe you should read this before thinking that everyone loves PS tracks. For example I don't care much how the track looks, as long as it is pleasure to drive on it.

The reason I use Photoshop to create my tracks is fair and simple: it doesn't take ages to create the track profile. What I do is I draw the track [perhaps include the scenery/terrain too] make it a tile and from there I only mess with the default editor. Another benefit is that long curves look a lot smoother [in default editor, it's mainly curve, straight, curve, straight and so on..]. So to sum it up: for me, PS provides a fast and easy way to create the track profile and sometimes it also enables otherwise impossible profiles - don't deny, even with all those tiles in the editor, it sets some limits to the profile, you can't make every kind of line.

Some profiles are not meant to be driven.

I am having trouble with the editor also. I downloaded the Night Mod from Jazzy's site, also I downloaded his new tiles. I was looking through all of the tiles and the new tiles I downloaded were still lit up (Not Night Modifyed) and I don't know why it does that.

Jazzy, is there a way to fix this?

And I do like photoshop, but I do not know how to use it so... I use the old editor.

first of all (i wrote it too on my site) after you finish to edit your track, open it with notepad and replace "include Tiles2.til" with "include Ntiles.til"...

in Ntiles.til are specified all the night image to transform your track in a night track, after replaced this row, if you like, reopen again the track in the editor and by searching you can find a light-pole and the joke was finish by adding this tile...

of course!
really is it a problem? :)

well I guess it depends from track profile, not for method used to make it. All "default editor" tracks could be easily maked with photoshop. Maybe a bit faster :)
