Community Server needed - can anyone host it?
I heard that many players are willing to start cups and tournaments (one of those is me), but their connection isn't good enough to host them. Having a "Community Server" would solve this problem: 1 server for all cups, for anyone.
What's required:
- server’s location = Europe
- TS server running 24h/day (i.e: y4nn1ck, pesol, PTX..)
- FTP Server installed to the same machine (FTP access for admins)
- webserver OR telnet access for admins (most probably telnet required for first months)
- a stable connection (i.e: y4nn1ck, PTX..)
If anyone can offer something like this, please contact me via msn/email (a.squizzato AT mclink DOT it) or just reply here. Request will be forwarded to Ande/JGG as well.

I too would be willing to host leagues again, but not with my server of course. If there was some community server, i would take advantage and host like i did 1-2 years ago.
Also, how are the US servers for those in Europe? There are 3 US servers correct? Perhaps one of them could become a server for use by some players. Admin rights given to some like me, Dede, and some others who want to host (and not just ANYONE who wants to host...). Ande setup a server for the EA-F1 league over a year ago, but it sort of fell apart overtime... would be nice to have it back.
How much does it cost to rent a gaming server? Anyone ever looked into it? Maybe it's possible to arrange something...

JollyGoodGames should know this better than us. Anyway, this server is required and should be hosted somewhere in europe because in europe we don't have servers managed by community (yeah, we have yannick but we can't convert it to a community autoserver).Mouse wrote:How much does it cost to rent a gaming server? Anyway, the idea is to install some script to this server, so that anyone can host his own cups with any type of track, car, macro, etc.
I really hope we find someone willing to host a server like that. Best solution would be, of course, that JGG/Ande provide it (it would mean high quality server, not?), but I doubt that this is gonna happen. So, anyone willing to host one? If you just have a good bandwidth, you live in europe, and you can host a server 24h/day then you're what we need. And if you don't know how to install those things we need, it doesn't matter: we help you.

You haven't heard about SSH? :Odede wrote: - FTP Server installed to the same machine (FTP access for admins)

Wooo! We got a Community Server, provided by Philippe! 100mbps connection! He said he's not sure for how long he can host it, but as long as we have it, let's use it!
Thanks to Philippe now we can host any type of cup/tournament there: we can upload tracks, cars, macros; set admin privileges etc.. In order to test if everything is ok, I'll organize some tournament/cup there in next days.
Stay tuned

You should have been online last night when we had a nice slider cup on my server.

I just decided to try a different setting in y4nn1ck.org server: antislider as fixed car. It seemed that players stay for lot of cups and have fun, and races are tigher. Let's see if everyday racing increases
