PunaBall and Full Contacts: the future of TS?
In last month I noticed that Full Contacts is having a lot of success (always more than 10 players), and of course PunaBall is always alive. In 1 month we probably got 1 or 2 *not organized* racing cups (probably none with random default cars). So, is this the future of TS? Is this the only way to keep players in servers? Is everyday normal racing definitively dead?
I think rough racing is fun sometimes, but i prefer good fair competition.
BluT hosted a nice Anticup last night, it had a total of 14 players at one point, it was very nice. Too bad.. many people misread the info (it said "Anticup no rough") and drove a bit unfair. But after we straighted it out, most people ran fine. Of course most overtaking involved some pushing... but in 8 lap races it was the only way to do well.
I think the reason there are more rough racing cups is because they are so easy to setup, and easy to do well in. Anyone can win. There is no pressure either.
Is normal racing dead? I would say no.
If i had a good server (well... if i did not live half way around the world..) i would love to host cups, races and leagues.

Full contacts are fun. That is main reason people like those. Everybody can win race so its motivationg for newbies(even vipe has won one race).
I like also when racing "normally" but its more boring in the end when there is same winners and endless screaming about who drove rough when he shouldnt.
Track choices are usually chaotic, small and rough because that's why anything can happen. Of course when server is more crowded larger tracks are needed. But full contact wouldnt be so fun in those tracks where you cant hit anything or make mistakes.
No, normal racing isnt dead. But full contact is just more fun

Spinnering on limits...
I'd like to host them too if I wouldn't have that firewall thing...Mouse wrote:If i had a good server (well... if i did not live half way around the world..) i would love to host cups, races and leagues.
I prefer normal racing, though Full Contact is very fun. I think there should be more normal racing and rough racing only sometimes, not all the time. We just need some good racing servers like PTX:s were.
Well, y4nn1ck is pretty good server, but the tracks are so similar with each others, maybe some "fun" tracks would be good in there too. The other thing is that it's empty almost all the time, and if there are players there's only few of them.dede wrote:We got y4nn1ck, exactly the same as PTX. What's the problem of that server then?
Rough is nice once a month, but normal racing is the rigth thing to do. There just aint a good server for it. Yannic-server has nice tracks maybe, but random-car is not nice. I bet if I could host proper cups with proper tracks with a fixed car( slider off course), it would be as full as full contact- servers, if people just would spread the word like in the case of full contact - events. Full contact servers are full, because they are events (done by someone in some specific time). If there was some full-contact autoserver, it would not be full, because there isnt the feeling of an important event, since the server stands there tomorrow too. Same goes for racing servers too. If Yannick opened the server once a week and were there "controlling" the cup, it would be an event and would get more people. If Yannick autoserver had one player sticking for some time, there could be cups too, because one player atracts others too. No one just wants to stick there. I would stick there if i could drive only slider there, but i can't. Random is bad in that sence. On the other hand, when people would start racing with different cars we would again be in problems, cause anti and slider just dont fit in same track. So: a proper racing server needs someone to host it, someone to make the car fixed and to make it into an "event". Just like a full contact server needs a hoster. People seems to have forgotten the easines of making these normal-racing-events, which makes them afraid to put up a server for racing. Some potential hosters seem to think that there should be strick rules and everything controlled and planned from the beginning to end. Truth is, however, that a racing server needs only the hoster and a server-info: "Lets rally". I haven't seen a normal racing server being set up and ending up empty. People will come race when they just have a change.
What comes to normal racing being boring. (because of same winners and same whines about someone being rough). I think that some people should learn to compete with 100% devodion without taking it too seriously. What I mean is that people whine too much of other's mistakes, when one should concentrate on you're own doings. It doesnt matter if you lose a cup because someone pushes you. It should be enough that you know that you have done your best in race. Yes, in race, not in chat. It doesnt matter if you aren't in the top in tournament-table. You can do your best to win the guy closest to you. More generaly: It should be enough to try do one's best in every race, every corner, no matter what's the reward of the race, or what are one's true changes to win. Competing is just best there is. Once one understands and accepts this basic principle of enemy being yourself rather than the big bad gruel world, one can concentrate on actual race rather than to the guys who push you or the guys who always win you. Only then you one can truly feel the enjoynment of racing. Life sucks, suffering exists, but you dont have to suck it back and increase the inner suffering of yourself and others.
Maybe this sounds like a bullshit. Well... It isn't.

Full contact is a fad It'll come and go, it is not like we are going to play rough until the end of time. There was an easyslider fad at one point. 0.86 had a ghost fad etc. etc. etc. No need to start panicking. Normal racing is where TS began and will be where TS ends.
I wish we'd start a missile battle fad or something, I've never played it before...

Ahahaha, you don't believe that even by yourself.Jarno wrote:No, normal racing isnt dead. But full contact is just more fun![]()
Limp-pu, lots of good points there. Indeed, most enjoyable and fun for me is good tight racing, no matter what position that battle is on. Ah, that last Slider cup we had, 4 quite equal drivers battling for places. Mang it was great
There was one when the feature first came out. Missile servers all over!xzeal wrote:I wish we'd start a missile battle fad or something, I've never played it before...
I have created a BUNCH of missile battle arenas, i should put the up for download. They are photoshopped, but only 2 extra files (and they are about 80KB). Quick server transfers. I have a set of 10 actually (but some are made for "infiltration" style of missile battle). If people have good fun using them, maybe servers will go up with them.
Would be nice to have some little Missile battle league, i think the competition is quite even and it could be a close cup.

Anyway, I have nothing against full contact: I personally don't like the rdp antislider in that kind of cup (a normal antislider would decrease the "luck"-component), but I've to admit that it's nice having 15 players online playing together at the same server. Tonight we tested some xbumpz too, and it was a good success (about 4 cups with more than 10 players). Let's just hope that in the future someone will take care of organizing racing cups too
(and that people will play them hehe)
Rough racing with antislider (normal, not rdp) is always welcome: the "luck"-component isn't so important and some skill is required. Nice cups anyway, it's good that [GPOR] starts hosting some cup for the whole community, I appreciate that.Mouse wrote:Dede when you joined us we were doing the rough cup (clean cup was before it, i called you in MSN).
