issue with indexed colour in photoshop

Post by zeromorph » Sun Nov 18, 2007 12:09 am

Hey guys,
I've started to create a track using Coral draw and then Photoshop.
I really have an issue with pattern file.
How do you index the colour in photoshop?
When I do it, the result is like a brick wall in the game.
Its supposed to be the tracks outline. haha.

Can anyone help me out?

Tijny wrote:The pattern file should be a paletted png-file where every color index represents its own terrain. In your case, you probably want to fill the desired area with either index 2 (tarmac) or index 15 (track edge). If you need to know other terrain id's, take a look at the file /data/terrains.ter.
Mouse wrote:What I did was open an existing pat file, and save the color table. That way there is nothing to create, and it's always there. The only problem is, not ALL ID's will be there, and making some things will be impossible (without setting ID's manually). For a beginner, this way works well (i have been playing for 2.5 years and i always use the same table).

Good luck.
Hi,
Thanks for your previous answer Tijny.
But where do i tell photoshop what the colours are and how do I use the colour table??

Thanx

Didn't an expensive program like that come with a manual? :P

Or you could see if my explanation makes sense: viewtopic.php?p=10591#10591

Good question. Yesterday somebody started to notice strange things on the website, and it all seemed that we were going back to an old database. I contacted Jollygood Games (they host TurboSliders.com) and they told me that their hosting company was moving their servers but they didn't advise them via e-mail, so it was quite impossible preventing this. The result is that I have to manually recover all data/files added yesterday. I'm not sure I can recover your topic, though.

As Mouse pointed out before some of the posts were deleted, it's often a good idea to use an existing pat-file's palette. Then you can just go to the color table, click on the terrain you want to use (id 15, so that's the 16th square), copy the hex code, select it as your primary color and fill the desired area with it.

I "recovered" those three posts lost, and I placed them to the first message in this page.

Hahaha crazy goings on. Here was me thinking u fellas didn't want to help a little noob, when JGgames was fannying around after all!!
Thanks for all your advice guys, I kind of figured it out by "reverse engineering" one of jazzy's tracks. Well I sorta opened his indexed colour table and said "eureka".
Thanks again,
Oh and special thanks to dede to recovering all the posts :)
