World PunaBall Cup, How about?

Post by mandeagle » Sun Jan 22, 2006 5:31 am

Thats the deal, a cup, like soccer world cup, 1 team of each country, with 2, 3, 4, 5... players in each team, to compete to see the strongest punaball nation =D

to do that, every nation should do qualifying cups to decide the best local team and players, to together, make a internacional team

mike nike said that some countries have ew people with full version, then, the cup may encourage the people to buy, or not, in that case, they can join each other to if won, play with less people to then, decide the real champion

the cup doesn't have to happen right now, may have some time to do the qualifying.. the registration of the teams to the world cup, the games etc,

After all, the people decide the oficial stadium, matches time os goals and so on

the servers, can be a neutral server for both team, or can be half time in each team server

so, what do you think about a cup like that? vote at the pool to decide the number of players

In the discussion with Mandeagle i wondered, if more than 1 team in a country may be allowed.

Example: maximum of 4 2-player teams in each country.

But an arena with more goal-width i would like too (and maybe a bit more length)

2vs2 advantage:
+ less players = better connection
+ more nations can take part
+ usual PunaBall Arena size could be used

that would work in a internacional cup with normal teams, world cup would be better with only the best players of the countries

Such a cup would surely be nice, but there are only a few countries that have enough players. (Brazil, Holland, Finland, Italy, Germany?, USA?, ...)
And who gets to pick the players for each country? There isn't something like a national coach in TS. :)

Some other ideas:

2vs2 mixed cup:
- Normal tournament, in which every Brazilian player must team up with a European player and vice versa.

2vs2 Continental cup:
- Regular 2vs2 tournament in Brazil and Europe first
- The winners of those cups play 1 long match against each other (I'd prefer 20-30 minutes per half)

ok lets see the Estonian team, hmm i guess i should be the defender, lets see who is good for offence, hmm i could choose from xzeal oh and Xzeal is good too or how about xzEAL, oh wait, i know! The Estonian team: xzeal and xzeal.

In other words: sigh :(.

There is only one other Estonian in TS who owns a license that i know of and and i haven't seen him in ages.

I think one country should be able to have max 3 teams with 2 players each. Or then that players from a smaller country, like Estonia, could go with another country, like Russia or other.
I also like about the idea of larger teams and larger arena.

voted 2vs2 cause

- good connection
- punaball is usually 2vs2 cause other things are boring

mike what about us playing together ? ;)

Hehe :)
I thought about some world cup soon after playing TS for the very first time. And if i have met a german i remembered it :)
me, you, ORO, Pain~less - if there are more german full version players, i still have to (re-)find out, i guess. So your suggestion would be not bad ;)

But today morning i worked on a tool, which is more or less replacing an old IPCollector Tool, which is generating a player list mainly sort by the properties: nationality and demo/full version.
Unfortunately my database, the function IPNumberToCountryCode needs, is not good...i have to keep on searching or in worst case i have to input some IP zones by manual.

I had an idea of having a Race of Champions type cup, where each nation gets points. I like this idea, though im not sure of who i can team with from the US....too bad FastEddie does not play anymore.

I like Tijny's idea of a 2v2 mixed cup, because BluT and I have been looking for a cup to enter as a team.

World Cup 2006 comes to TS, MikeNike should host, heheehehe it is Germany 2006!!!! :P

hmm if the idea of a world cup doesn't work, we can make a normal internacional cup, with mixed teams, first regional cups to decide the teams to enter, then, the real cup, would be lot easier

Do not assosciate Estonia with Russia, or you might see a side of me you wont like.

Alright now to my point:

Countries cup is a good idea, i came out with a few similar ideas in my 0.86 tournament hosting days. But i didn't go through with it, since it would have been difficult to get the majority of players involved in it. These days you can fix that if it is officially supported/organized by jollygoodgames or Mr. Mannisto. That would give the winner "world champion" title and i guess thats what mandeagle was really after with his original thought.

Title "world champion" would pull together quite a few people. Later racing tournaments could be done aswell, but i repeat: without official support the tournament would be just like any other tournament.

The idea is nice, i've already tought on something like...

the main problem is a techinical one:

There isn't a universal server, i mean, a server with ping 100 for everyone, brazillians, americans, germans...maybe jgg could spend some money renting a good server :D

Btw , i voted for 4x4 on a arena 30% bigger than the usual.
-We'll have a strategic play, with less luck factor than on 2x2.

-Each country has to select the best players, with 2 substitute players

i do like the idea of larger teams and arena. Can assign actual positions for each player, i would be a defensive midfielder :P

Anyway, finding 3 other good puna players from the US would be hard, because, well no offence, but there arent many, im afraid :?

Looking at this list we can notice main teams:

Brazil (no problem to make a team)
Finland
Canada (canadian?)
Belgium
Germany (mike's responsability)
Denmark
Spain
UK
Italy (jazzy?)
Netherlands (tijny?)
Poland
Portugal
Sweden (dby?)
USA (mouse?)

people of countries with less players could unite and play as a community team.

Spain 1-2: [DfH]Picolo, [GT2] UniQue, F . ALONSO., SCAINET ...
Finland 1-4: 4 teams of: [CTTE] ilippi, [FUbar]Fergu, [GTi]tjjj, Ippon-Teh 1337, [TL]Punatiainen, [WCR]Matti, [WP] Pappa, [WP]Kyna_Musti, [xS]Kobradog, [xDx]MikkoDaMan, AstroZombie, Chevron & Roy, cRN, Juan Saar, MotoPsycho, Sharp, sokke, sssami ...
UK 1-4: 1-4 teams of: [EP] EvilPhil, [orange]JammyUK, ippon.WoRmTaiL!, JayTee, Rabbit, roygbiv, Steve McQueen, toe cutter! ...
Italy 1-4: 1-4 teams of: [GPOR] BluT, [GPOR] Jazzyclub, [GPOR] rivolta, [GPOR] stummiH. Ippon-dede, Ippon-wazaari ...

Very less players:

Austria 1: Leibowitz, [SCT] Flexman
Australia 1: Ippon-SphinX, Tapir
Belgium 1: Kiekendale, [Orange]Mikie
Denmark 1: [HT] Carlei, ThoreDK
Estonia 1: xzeal, Pall
France 1: y4nn1ck, Matt
Portugal 1: [PT] VITOR, Exup
Slovenia 1: Ippon-sV, ...

Too less players:

Greece 1: Xaykev
Lithuania 1: [orange] diesel
Lativa 1: [orange]SaniTAR
...

My bet would be something like this:
Number of Teams | Nation
4 Brazil
1 Canada
1 Germany
1 Spain
4 Finland
2 UK [or only 1, if split into England, Wales...]
3 Italy
1 Malta
4 Netherlands
1 Sweden
3 USA

1 Austria
1 Belgium + Denmark
1 Estonia + Lithuania + Latvia
0 Portugal
0 Slovenia

Result:
~14 Countries/Country-Foundations
~ 28 teams

Possible Systems:

A) 16 teams [4 groups of 4 or 2 groups of 8]
Max teams in a country: 1
If there are less than 16 ountries or country foundations, then they can be filled by 1. Brazil, 2. Finland, 3. Netherland ... (USA, Italy ...) in that row or by random

B) 24 teams [6 groups of 4 or 8 groups of 3 or 4 groups of 6]
Max teams in a country: 4
If there are more than 24 teams then the countries with most teams have to make space etc.

C) 32 teams [8 groups of 4 or 4 groups of 8]
Max teams in a country: 8
Example:

6 Brazil (+2)
1 Canada
1 Germany
1 Spain
6 Finland (+2)
2 UK
3 Italy
1 Malta
4 Netherlands
1 Sweden
3 USA
1 Austria
1 Belgium + Denmark
1 Estonia + Lithuania + Latvia

D) ... (of course there are many more possibilities, suggest some, if you like)

So in relation to road_oktanes post:
Belgium, Denmark would probably take part
Poland, Portugal won't make it, i can imagine

However, Turbo Sliders Soccer World Cup Germany 2006 sounds like a sweet little motivation to keep on helping with the organisation.
Though it keeps just an unofficial (unofficial in this case = not organised or mainly sponsored by JGG or Antti Mannisto) international PunaBall Team Cup/Tournament.

Organization:
Who would like to organize or at least help organizing?
I can imagine, next to me, the following ones are interested:
- TSB_road_oktane
- [BSR]Mandeagle
- [FN] The Borg
- Ippon-dede
- Ippon-Wazaari
- Xzeal

Oh and by the way, concerning my PlayerList:
I forgot lately to upload the flags (images): www.mikenike.com/PlayerList.html

Mike, you can count on me to help on the charge of the world cup.

This would be ok:

B) 24 teams [6 groups of 4 or 8 groups of 3 or 4 groups of 6]
Max teams in a country: 4
If there are more than 24 teams then the countries with most teams have to make space etc.

Anyway, the Brazil#1 would be me and suntzu as we're 2 times winners of TSB Puna cup. :)
