Forum Ranks
I am adding Forum Ranks to the Forum as I noticed none of them exist and I believe they should be in place. I have a few ideas, but I really want to ask around first. If any of you have any ideas on what rank names you would like to see.. Put them here.
I moderate and administrate several sites and forums, but I want to make sure the rank names are specific to TS. As I'm not a player of TS, I can't tell you what the names should be, eh..
Put I was planning on a new rank every 50-100 posts.

and i thought we'd end somewhere around 1000

Re: Forum Ranks
Although I voted No I don't really know if ranks would be nice or not. I have seen forums where people are posting like crazy (many small stupid posts) to get that >1000 posts.
But it could be nice to have some TS-related ranks. So, some proposals for the ranks
0 Posts = Beef
50 Posts = Pig
1000 Posts = Wanker

Re: Forum Ranks
lol and yes. i know what you mean, i have come across the problem a lot. Usually on MMORPG forums from what I've seen. People posting senselessly just to get the post count up to get a better rank and higher total posts on the forum.Hengari wrote:Although I voted No I don't really know if ranks would be nice or not. But i have seen it before and i will be watching for it. So it wont be a problem here i dont believe. No one here seems to be currently worried about post counts anyway...
and no thanks to your suggestions

I voted no. We already got some people who post more then a post per day and have done so for over a year. Well it isn't a bad thing *cough*mouse*cough if you got something to say, but i really don't want to start seeing "number game" "3word game" and "guess that TS track" topics.
Wait a second... "guess that TS track", that isn't a bad idea!
Oh wait back to the topic. I fear spam. But then again i fear an inactive forum even more. Most people would be at below 100 posts, so...
How about
0 - Where am i?
10 - Wee... i found the post button
25 - What is TS?
50 - I'm not last anymore
100 - Now how do they do those track records?
200 - Ahh... that's how
500 - Spammer
1000 - Spammaster 4000

I don't think we need such an elaborate ranking system. First, this forum isn't solely a TS forum (even though it is in practice). Second, I don't think anyone would see a difference between those ten rankings unless it was stated by a number.
So we could do something like:
- Junior/newbie: Member less than one month OR less than 5 posts (number of posts will not remove your newbie status until one month is passed, but you will remain a newbie even after that unless you post something)
- Pro/senior/whatever: At least 3 months on the board AND more than 500 posts.
- Guru: Pro level user can be nominated by another user, and if general discussion around the subject permits, the user will be promoted to a guru level. The guru users would automatically get moderator access, too.
Anyone between Junior and Pro would be a regular member or whatever. I feel 90% of the users (or more) should be that. There should be nothing to be ashamed of to be a regular. That should be what most people are. No competition of rank - you're a junior when you enter and those who truly are giving something to the board would become seniors and ultimately gurus...
I guess it's in a way even more elaborate system than the one suggested, but it does remove the pressure from most of the visitors to "work" on their ranking...

I suppose we would get a lot of people posting for the +1, i am in gaming forums quite often, and the ones with a post count have +1 spammers indeed.
On the XBox forum, there is a simple 1-5 for each user. It it not changed by how much a person posts, but how they post. Example:
A person who posts a few times per month. Or a person who post useless messages or is there only to insult others = 1
A person who posts often, tries to help others and give opinions = 2-5
This is similar to creator's idea too i guess.
Also on theXBox forum, there can be icons for each member - that show what they have done. On that forum there is icons for things like writing FAQs, helping people with problems, moderating, and other good things.
The 1-5 should also be decided by a set group - Ande, Creator, Hatu and some drivers. Not an automatic thing, it must be set manually. Like a vote almost.
I suppose a ranking system like this would be better, especially to keep the +1ers away.
What do you guys think?

Forum ranks could be good but only if that is simple enough. Like mouse and creator write. Only couple of possible rank names, numbers or what ever. I personally like some kind of rank names more.
It could be:
Newbie: New in forum and write few posts with few words.
Rookie: Is been in forum kind of long but doesn't post enough.
driver: Normal drivers who comments here for a while. Knows what to write.
Master: Is been on forum long time and makes good topics and post well.
Grandmaster: Moderators. Keep this forum together. And make much topics.
And those things should be desided about group of important persons of TS. Of course moderators and then some good and active drivers.
Missbehaviours should lead to drop of the rank in to lower level.
Some of my thoughts.

Spinnering on limits...
I agree about the ideas what Creator, Mouse and Jarno gave. That kind of "ranking" is better than just plain post count. On a forum concentrating on topics about Apple there are ranking with fruit-topic like raw, fresh, ripe and so on which is good. Also there is a "karma" which users can give to others if their topic/reply/advice is good.
But though this forum is also used for other games in JGG so TS specific ranking is maybe not so good. If we could get that solely TS page (headquarters) under JGG in address like turbosliders.com then this forum and ranking could be made just for TS.

I just finished the Rank System. It is as follows:mouse wrote:Ranking system is up now i see
Newbie - 0
Rookie - 50
Junior - 75
Pro - 100
TS Master - 200
TS Addict - 300
TS Grandmaster - 400
TS God - 500
Each of them can be recognized by an image as well.

The ranking seems ok. That "users vote for ranks" could have been too difficult with this community which is not so big or active in this forum.

Yeah. i saw many people had uppercase and mine was lowercase.. 2 days ago i profile edited with an uppercase H and it updated sucessfully but no changes.mouse wrote:My name is different - M --> m
What happend?
EDIT - It seems like the Mods and CMs had their names all in lower case. I cant fix it myself through profile edit either.
I like Hatu better than hatu eh. but yea, same thing for me 2 days ago. i dont know if it's only for special ranks or what. not sure if it can be changed either.

Many of you will notice a change to the Forum Ranks. The crowns have been removed from the Community Manager and Community Moderator tags. The stars were put in place of the crowns.
The requirements in post counts have been altered. As well, some of the ranks have been edited and/or deleted. So take notice as some of your ranks may have changed, and their corresponding rank images may have changed as well. All depends on your rank.
Also, 2 usergroups have been added. The Community Management usergroup and the Community Moderators usergroup. The names of the usergroups give away the purpose and brief description. So you will notice small changes to the forum.
EDIT: The Lower-case bug with the Mods and Admins has been resolved.
