Zoom Level in Game

Post by Jeffrey » Wed Apr 26, 2006 10:08 pm

I decided to open this topic so that members can discuss what zoom level they prefer and why.

As you know in the game under video settings there is zoom level. By default this setting is set to 1.0. If you make it smaller lets say 0.6 the track will look smaller and if you make it 2.0 the track will look larger.

I think (maybe i am wrong) that 0.6 is 100% zoom level. I came to this conclusion cause if you put an image in track at 0.6 zoom it looks like the original size but settings larger that 0.6 will start make the image look enlarged.

I personally play at zoom level 0.6. Some of my friends prefer 0.7 or 0.8. And you? What setting do you use?

Wow .6 is a far zoom. In my testing with sooms, i see that from .6 - .8 it is hard to see the angle of your car, and to make acurate turns. I use .9 and 1.0 usually.

I use 0.8... maybe a closer zoom level would be better if I know a track very well.

i think just telling the zoom level isn't enough, as the area on screen is determined by video's resolution.

I play with 1.4 zoom 800x600 resolution on a 15' screen.

1.1 zoom, 1280x1024, 19", predictive camera.

I play the game in a window, so it might be different comparing to playing in full screen.

Am i correct when i say 0.6 zoom level is the 100% size. I think above 0.6 zoom level starts the enlargement of track. As i said before, if you place an image tile in track, at 0.6 it looks the same size 100% but >0.6
starts to get bigger.

Tonight we have our local F1 championship race, i might risk it using 0.8!

My choice is 1.1 zoom, 800x600, Predictive camera, full screen, 17" tft.

I find that 1.0 doesn't allow me to take turns accurately enough, but because of the limited vision I need pred. cam.

This is probably no use any more, but I'll explain it anyway...

Basically the camera moves a bit ahead of your car by predicting the direction you're travelling/ going to travel. In normal mode the car is in the center of the screen while in pred. cam mode the car is slightly more in the direction where you came from and you can see the track further ahead. This gives more time to react to curves, obstacles, other cars and so on.

Pred. cam might be disturbing when you start using it but you grow accustomed to it and eventually you can't live without it - at least in my case it went exactly like that.

I use 1.0 zoom, 1024x786 resolution and 17" monitor. Some lap wanking normally 1.2 to 1.6. By the way, is there command line for changing zoom level in game, or is the main menu only way to change zoom level?

How to: Settings->Video->Zoom factor and as I know, there isn't way to change it during cups.

Usually 1.0, no predictive, 1024x768 with 17" monitor. Below 1.0 sometimes with custom cars.

I use 1.0, no predictive cam, 1024x768, full screen. With new tracks in cup I often turn on predictive cam for first laps, and sometimes in lapwanking I change zoom level to higher values (up to 1.6) to get better times (to get closer to corners).

The possibility of changing the zoom-level during the race would be very useful. I prefer to use 1.2x for tracks I know well, and 1.0x for tracks that are new to me. High zoom levels make new tracks difficult to drive, in particular with speeder.
