Track making competition

Post by Jarno » Tue Nov 21, 2006 2:41 pm

Hello all trackmakers.

I know there is a lot trackmakers around, good ones and not so good ones. Someone likes to make tracks only with default tiles and someone likes to use own tiles. Someone likes large tracks and someone small tracks. This competition is for all of you. You can do track what ever you like to participate. Best part of this is that you guys can decide which track is best.

Some important info about competition:
Tracks should sent to c2214@jamk.fi before 10.12. So dont post those in this topic.
Email should contain next information: Trackname, maker and some introducing if liked.
Track should be packed with .zip format and that .zip should contain all of these things: .trk and .pat files, all of your own tile files and also a picture of a track(.jpg or .bmp format is recommed). Track cant be over 1mb big. Only racing tracks are allowed in this competition.
Track have to be new one. So you cant pick your best ever made track and send that. You really have to make new one.
Remember also that track can be as wide and large as you want but it should be drivable with default cars. Players arent force to use any other cars.
Only one track per trackmaker.

So after 10.12 i put links to tracks and pictures in forum and then voting starts. All of you can vote once and voting happened by placing three best tracks for your opinion in order 1. 2. 3. Voting happened in forum by replying this post.

For example:
1.Pu_Valli
2.J_Basring
3.hg_fastlane

You can also give some comments.

Thanks all trackmakers for doing some nice tracks. Here they are know, eleven hard worked and well thought tracks. Voting progress starts now. Above is instructions how to vote. Remember that you cant vote your own track.

We are looking best tracks so all areas are important. Well of course all of you have different weights of things but try to think of all directions when voting.

Voting end last day of december when we know three best tracks of competition.

Sounds good but I have a question: Is trackmaker allowed to send more than one track?

Great Idea Jarno!

We should start doing this every month.

I think this will help to increase ou track database and also improve our track making.

I'm IN!

I do not think that is such a good idea :P Since it is a contest, you want to make the best track possible, and it takes a LOT of time. Why not just do this:

4 dates per year (Winter, Spring, Summer and Fall). When a due date comes around, everyone should have their track finished and voting can begin. Like a contest that never stops.

I this with this, we can see more beautiful tracks. If people enter to win each time, tracks will become better and better!

Now, about my track: I have already begun working on it. So far i have spent 2.5 hours in Photoshop (If i had Corel, i would not need to take so much time). I would say i am about 20% finished with the track.
Lucky, tomorrow is a holiday+i have LOTs of drinks with caffeine, tonight will be an all-nigher in photoshop :P

Are we allowed to talk about our tracks here? I want to share my idea!

I too have started my work on another motogp/f1 track.

Mouse i think better keep the track secret to be a surprise.

We have to look at jarno's brilliant idea not just as a competition but a means of doing high quality tracks.

Could it be a bi-montly competion. I mean December Contest, February, April and so on

I though too that this competition would be four times per year. It just depends how popular this will be :) It would be nice to see if next competition tracks look like this competition winner track. :)

About the talking of track ideas....hmmm. Maybe not here because if everyone share their idea it would be hard to find post about this competition. Mouse maybe you could open new thread in tracks- section called "Track ideas" or something like that :)

After many hours of work, [insert my new track's name here] is finished!

It will not be released [to the public] untill all tracks are due in (only GPORs will see it before).

I am looking forward to see what you guys have created! :D

But I was the first :) And if I'm in right, this kind of track has never been released on TS before.

It would be nice to have a cup with these tracks, after the contest is finished. Put up a download with all the tracks (so you cannot transfer is a server). Default cars (tracks maker picks the car for his track).

The "Winter Track Making Contest Cup" or something like that. :)

That's a good idea Mouse, but wouldn't it be hard to get all the track makers in the cup at once. I like the idea, so put some more thought into it. I'd like to have a winter track making contest cup!

We can just inform the most suitable cars for the track, when we post it.

Remember everyone to send your tracks at the latest 10.12. I have now 4 tracks so i wait more. I want to be able to start voting progress in 11.12. So if i dont have your track before that you cant participate.

just send mine :D
cup with these tracks would be good. That could be held before the day that voting ends, so people would get a change to race in these tracks too.

What about having this kind of competition before each DIT starts? So the best track will be chosen for:

- new official ranking
- time trial cup
- DIT

What do you think? (Jarno mainly)

Well i think this kind of competition in every month is maybe too often. I think we hang up in original plan where this is going to be four times per year. Or that is the plan so far :)

Then, how about applying dede's suggestions for the top three tracks chosen? In the case of DIT, for example, the winner would be the track of January, second February and third March. Then it would be time again for a new track-making competition, and based on which the tracks for April, May an June would be decided, and so on...

This would, of course, reveal the DIT tracks and enable training on them in advance. But so what? Month is a long time to wank anyway. From the point of view of official ranking, it's important to get best tracks there.

No, sorry. Next DIT tracks have to be unreleased, because there will be a time trial cup like yesterday's. If I won't have unreleased tracks, then DIT won't take place.

Oh, I see. But why is it so important to drive the time trial cup on an unreleased track? Why doesn't a track familiar to everyone do? By the way, this would be the case in your original suggestion a few posts earlier, as well.

I'm trying to involve the larger number of players in the "new ranking": many players don't like wanking in DIT, but they want to show their skillz in a cup with equals chances: 20 laps with each car in a new track makes this possible. And if this track is the same as DIT's, then these players could be ranked in the "new ranking" too and in DIT results. Look, now we already have 10 totaltimes for the ranking:

OK, dede, that's good, thanks for explaining. How about leaving DIT out of track-competition but including the winning track (or top3) in the new official ranking?
