New game types, in my opinion, are not hurting the community. Old school drivers may be turned off, but why do you think new drivers will?
Lets say Mr. Topo wants to buy the game, he has only played the DEMO and has enjoyed it, what do you think looks better:
A - 23 default tracks with 5 cars. Some other custom (and sometimes horrible) tracks on PTX server.
B - All of A. Punaball, fuel+damage racing, battle mode, photoshoped tracks ect....
I would think that the new player (Mr. Topo) would like to get B, it has much more than A (this seems logical).
I have played punaball with a friend, i asked before "do you play puna often?" he said "i got the game for punaball, racing just came as a bonus." There are many people like this. This is totally a true story.
Having one form of the game can appeal to cirten people. But having many things to do will appeal to more. Some people like F1, TS has F1 type racing, i think that person will enjoy the game more with it.
As for people quiting, one big factor are these a-holes in the servers pushing them away. A new player is not going to be as good as a player who is 1 year into the game, and the faster (many of them) drivers are not nice to the newbies. In my first days, i had to encounter many a-holes telling me how much i sucked. Hmmmmm, good thing i loved this game so much, otherwise i would have quit.
To sum up, i dont think Mods are hurting the community. They are building the game to make it appeal to more people.
My tracks folder has quite a few new "mods" inside. I am now scared to even talk about them in public, because people make it seem like i am killing the game by making them.
Well Jazzy, sorry for posting off-topic again, i wanted to throw my thoughts in on this.
